22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, Johvary 7, 1986 Atoms play it tough to win tournament "Over Fol Christmas holidays the Malmont Farm Atoms competed in a four day tournament which was hosted by the Bowmanville Minor Hockey Association. After four days of competition the Green Machine walked away with four straight vic- . tories with the final game against a very strong home town Bowman- ville team. In the end the Green Machine won the A Division Cham- pionship by a score of 4-1. Game 1 Thursday, December 26, 1985 The first game of the tournament saw the Malmont Farm Atoms face a tough rival from Peterborough but by showing lots of hustle and desire managed to skate to a very close 10 victory. Scoring for the -Green Machine was Jason McBride assisted by Jeff Parry at the 6:07 mark of the second period. Special Note: To Shawn Larocque who played a very alert game bet- - ween the pipes to earn the shutout. Game.2 Friday, December 27, 1985 In this game the Malmont Farm Atoms faced a very strong team Lake Scugog winner Lake Scugog d its way into the 1985 record books for the Molson "Big Fish" contest in Ontario. Figures released last week by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, which operates the contest, show a 7.25 pound largemouth bass was taken from Lake Scugog last year. That was good enough for a ninth place tie (with three others at 7.25 pounds) in the largemouth *'catch and keep" category. However, this was more than a pound smaller than the 8.27 pound lunker which won the largemouth category, taken by Tom Jones of Brockville from Graham Lake in Yonge Township. Molson has been running the Big Fish Contest in Ontario for the past - ALLTYPES - ALL MAKES PHILIPS "S2RVicNG SERVICING STEREOS &HI-FI'S 214BLOORST.E. 27 years and recently added the 'catch and release" category. The largest fish entered in the competition in 1985 was a 50,12 pound muskie landed by Steve Albers of Illinois. He was fishing in Eagle Lake near Kenora when he hooked the lunker. It was the only muskie to tip the scales at more than 50 pounds. The largest walleye at 16.75 'pounds was taken in Cedar Lake in Algonquin Park by Georgetown - angler Joe Rosset. And for speckled trout, Carl Hillis 'of Georgetown was using a home made fly last August when he hook- ed and landed a beauty that tipped the scales at nine pounds even. He was fishing in Dolan Lake in Yaremko Township. In the final seconds of the game, the Green Machine popped the winning goal and skated to a 5-4 victory: In. the first period the Green Machine couldn't find the mark and fell behind by a score of 1-0. In the second period the Malmont Atoms started to skate and found the net. Scoring for the Green Machine was Duane Empringham assisted by Jody Logan and Jason McBride. In the third period the Green Machine came alive and scored 4 more goals. At the 12:49 mark Jason Cochrane scored assisted by Brad Moase and Chad Garvock. At the 9:38 mark Jody Logan scored a very pretty goal unassisted with 1:23 showing on the clock. Steve Laird tied the score on a super unassisted effort. With only 55 seconds left in the game Jody Logan scored the winning goal with the assist going to Jeff Andrews. A very strong team effort by all the boys. Eagles just keep rolling by Lee Wilbur During the Christmas holidays the Grant Menzies Eagles took part in the Bowmanville Tournament and came home with their 4th straight tournament trophy by winning the "B" Championship. In the first game they faced off with Oshawa Bruins and won han- dily 10-0. Scoring was by John Har- man 2 goals; Rob Baker 1 goal, 2 assists; Lee Wilbur 1 goal, 3 assists; Derek Dexter 2 goals; Steve Durham 1 goal; Craig Menzies 1 goal, 3 assists; Dave Culbert 1 goal, 2 assists; Chris Cookman 1 goal, 1 assist; Scott Burke and Dave Burnett picked up 1 assist each. John Moore wasn't tested in this game in the net. In the second game they came up flat against- Lindsay and lost 6-3. Scoring was by Greg Warriner 1 goal; Dave Burnett 1 goal, 1 assist; Lee Wilbur 1 goal; Craig Menzies; Steve Durham; Dave Culbert; Rob Baker and Chris Cookman picked up single assists each. Bill Eade played between the pipes. In the 3rd game the Eagles blew out Scarborough 9-1. Scoring was done by Derek Dexter with 2 goals; Greg Warriner 2 goals; Craig Men- zies 2 goals, 1 assist; John Harman 1 goal, 1 assist; Rob Baker 1 goal, 4 assists; Steve Durham 1 goal; Lee Wilbur 3 assists; Chris Lane 2 assists; Dave Burnett 2 assists; Dave Culbert and Andy Sytsma picked up 1 assist each. John Moore played between the pipes and wasn't severly tested in this game. In the 4th and final game the Eagles came up against Saltfleet and came home with a 5-1 victory and the "B"' Championship. Scoring for Port were Greg War- riner with the hat trick; Steve Game 3 Saturday, December 28, 1985 In this game the Malmont Atoms faced a club from Thornhill and skated to a very easy 5-0 victory which gave them a birth in the A division championship against Bowmanville. The first period saw lots of shots on net but the Thornhill goalie kept them off the scoreboard. In the se- cond period the Green Machine finally found the mark. At the 5:23 mark Chad Garvock scored assisted by Jason Cochrane and Peter King. At the 4:31 mark Jason Cochrane scored with the assist going to Brad Moase and Chad Garvock. The final goal of the period saw Gavin Cochrane score on a very nice unassisted effort. In the third period the Green Machine scored two more goals, at the 7:24 mark Jason Cochrane scored his second goal of the game on an unassisted effort. The final goal of the game was scored by Jeff Parry assisted by Jason McBride. Systma, Lee Wilbur and Dave Culbert picked up a single assist each. Bill Eade played well in net for Port. On January 5th the Eagles faced rivals Uxbridge and came home with a 5-0 shutout victory.. Port's first goal came from a rebound pick- ed up by John Harman who slid it in- to the corner, assist went to Lee Wilbur. Port's 2nd goal came on the power play as Lee Wilbur scored on a slap shot from the point assisted by Dave Culbert. Lee Wilbur got the 3rd goal with a nice set up froin Johnny Harman. PORT PERRY MINOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION -- ANNUAL -- GENERAL MEETING Championship Game This game saw the Malmont Farm Atoms against a very strong rival from Bowmanville. But by showing lots of hustle and good pass- ino the Green Machine skated to a suwong 4-1 victory. In the first period Jason Cochrane opened the scoring on a nice pass from Steve Laird. At the 1:22 mark Jason Cochrane net- ted his second goal with a nice pass- ing play from Chad Garvock and Brad Moase. In the second period Jody Logan scored the only goal of the period by showing some fancy stick handling. In the third period Gavin Cochrane scored a very pret- ty goal after receiving some super passes from Steve Laird and Jody Logan. With only 5 seconds on the clock Bowmanville managed to score with the extra attacker which robbed Shawn Larocque of a well earned shut out. The coaches and management would like to congratulate all the boys on a fine tournament victory as you showed a lot of style in youx, play and also showed 'you have heart." a good solo effort. Rounding the scoring out was Andy Sytsma who scored with a nice shot from the point assisted by Craig Menzies. John Moore played an excellent game and collected the shutout. This game should give Port extra game advantage for. the playoffs. The Eagles are off to Georgetown on the weekend for another tourna- ment as they play Owen Sound their first game. This should be a good tune up for the Eagles with playoffs just around the corner. Watch for playoff posters and come out and support the Eagles and Minor Hockey.
