Port lost their first game but won their second. Port lost their third game which put them into the "C" division final which was a very well played game but Port came out on the lower end of the score board losing 4-1 to Bowmanville. Port played their first game of the tournament on December 26 against Hillcrest and they lost 6-2. Hillcrest - scored first but Port came back and scored twice to go ahead by 1 goal. The first goal was scored by Jan Heyes assisted by Eric Grosvenor on a lead pass from Chris Legere. The second goal was scored by Jan again on a power play for Port. Eric Grosvenor assisted him again. Hillcrest then scored twice more in the second period and three more times in the third period to make the final score Port 2 and Hillcrest 6. On December 27 Port played their second game of the tournament and they won 5-1 against Trenton to keep their 'A' division hopes alive. Port got off to a fast start in the short 10 minute first period scoring twice. Graham Sullivan scored Port's first goal on a passing play from Adam Cummings and Chris Legere. Graham then scored again only 40 seconds later "after intercepting a pass beside the Trenton net. In the second period with only 2 seconds left, Chris Legere hit the top corner with a slap shot on a pass from Sean Bradbury who received a pass from Dan Sluggett. In the third period Jarrett Har- man deflected a shot in front of the net which came from Steve Staniland on the point. Port's final goal was scored by Mark Andrews on a passing play from Adam Cum- mings and Graham Sullivan. Tren- ton scored once to break Paul Kett's shutout but Port still won. The final score was Port 5, Trenton 1. Port played their third game at 8:00 in the morning on December 28 Tough defeat and lost to Oshawa 3-0 in a hard fought game. The score was at a dead lock until late in the second period when Oshawa took the lead. They added two more goals in the third period to make the final score Oshawa 3, and Port 0. This loss put Port in the "C" division final against Bowmanville. Final Game Later on the same day Port played in the final game against a strong Bowmanville team and lost 4-1 in a very exciting game. Bowmanville got the only goal of the first period and the only goal of the second period to go ahead 2-0. In the third period Bowmanville scored first and then Jarrett Harman scored Port's first and only goal of the game on a power play assisted by Eric Grosvenor and Chris Legere. Bowmanville scored once more to make the final score Bowmanville 4 and Port 1. Port Perry was awarded _ silver medallions for their efforts. 9-4 Loss After resting up from a big tour- nament the Port Perry Legionaires travelled to Lindsay on January 4 "for a league game. Port Perry drop- ped to Lindsay in a penalty filled game 9-4. Lindsay scored first then Adam Cummings shot in a rebound on the power play to tie the game at 1 goal apiece. Lindsay scored 5 times in the second period and scored first in the third period. Sean Bradbury then scored an unassisted goal in the open net on a miscue by the goaltender of Lindsay. Two minutes later on a power play Sean Bradbury scored Port's third goal on a passing play by Graham Sullivan and Chris Legere. Lindsay scored twice more before Port got their last goal of the game scored by Graham Sullivan and he was unassisted. The final score was Port 4 and Lindsay 9. Then Derek Slack tied it up at 1-1 before IGA took back the lead on Mike Toye's goal. Eric Douma and Orr each picked up an assist. In the third period, both took turns making the other sweat, while Ron Brown finally scored to tie it 2-2. Both teams traded heart breaks in the attempt to break the tie. Both teams will be looking for each other in the next meeting. January 4, 1986 Consumers Gas - 8 Emmersons - 2 The gas workers finally shut off the valve that turned them around as they went on a tear against the rewrites of Emmersons with an 8-2 win. Emmersons jumped into an ear- ly lead on a goal by Terry Bache from John Nottingham. One minute later, Dale Leask tied it at 1-1 before the end of the first period with Chris Menzies and Ron Brown assisting. Consumers got the only goal in the - second period, Duane Leask scoring from Brown. The Consumers broke it wide open by tallying six goals with Emmer- sons throwing one in for good measure by Joe Jackman from Dar- cy Head. Ron Brown with two goals and two assists led the way along with Chris Menzies' two goals. Dar- ryl Bradt and Gary Dowson picked up the singles - Adam Danter and Solomon 2- assists, Brown two assists, Duane Leask and Bradt with one each. Final score 8-2 Gas Workers. IGA - 17 Cochranes - 0 The Horsemen like the week previous were still taking a winter nap before the snow meets at the track - IGA put on a quick start by scoring four goals early and never let the horsemen out on track. Led by Bobby Orr's two goals, then Shawn Phillips and John Sturmans', 4-0 after one period. Eric Douma, ( Mike Griffin, Ed Toffin and Orr all had one assist each. Capacity Christmas Greenbank and Area News by Margaret Holtbhy A capacity crowd filled the church Christmas Eve for the celebration of our Saviour's birth. The singing of the lovely old carols warmed our hearts and the Play written and directed by George Beare remind- ed us of stories of Christmas past. The Cast portrayed Christmas 1860 in England and of a son about to emigrate to Canada, whose last gift from his mother was the Family Bi- ble. We were carried along to a scene 40 years later in his adopted country and allowed to reminisce with him and his family about the hardships which had come his way; but reminded of how the Family Bi- ble had sustained him in difficult times. Well done, Cast and Crew. A lovely way to spend a memorable Christmas Eve in a beautiful candlelight ending. Thank you one and all.
