26 = PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, January 7, 1986 Jr. C. MoJacks watching 4th place slip away With just two weeks remaining in the Central Junior C regular schedule, the Port Perry MoJacks still have an outside chance at finishing in fourth place in the final standings. But it's a long shot at best as the MoJacks trail fourth place Lakefield by four points and have just three games left to play. The Chiefs, on the other hand, have five games remaining, and two wins in ing lately with just one tie in their last five games, and they will pret- ty well have to chalk up victories in the final three games if they are to hang on to the fifth place in final standings. The MoJacks now have ~ 20 points, and there are three teams those five games will ensure them of the fourth place spot. The Lind- say Muskies have 18 points with four games left, Port Hope Panthers have 16 with five games to play, and the Little Britain Merchants have 15, also with five games to play. The MoJacks have not won a hockey game since December 22, when they dumped Uxbridge 9-4. Since then, the team has lost four and tied one. That tie came at the Scugog Arena December 29 against the Chiefs as the MoJacks scored six times in the final period for an 8-8 deadlock. Paul Butterworth got the final two markers in a wild finish to the game, and completed his hat trick. On January 2, the MoJacks hosted first place Bowmanville and came out on the short end of a 5-3 score. Brian Nicholson, Rob Nicholson and Paul Butterworth care up with the Port Perry goals. Last Friday night, the team made the long trip to Lakefield and were defeated 8-5 by the Chiefs. Andy Sutch and Brian Nicholson both had two goals, while Jeff McColl had a "single. On Sunday night in Bowmanville, the MoJacks came out on the bottom end of a 7{2 score in a miserable ex- cuse for a hockey game. Paul But- terworth and Rod Armstrong managed to score for Port Perry. The Eagles may have lost forward Brian Heard for the next five games for spearing and Daryl Rowe, who's battling with Brian Nicholson for the league scoring title will also miss a couple of games. Brian Nicholson has a chance to become 'he all-time single season . goal scorer in the Central Junior C league. He has 51 as of Sunday's game and needs seven in the final three games to break the record of 57 set in the late 70's by Grey Bullen who played for the Port Hape Panthers. The MoJacks have three games left to play. This coming Thursday night, they visit Port Hope, and on Sunday, January 12, they host the Lindsay Muskies in what could be an important match for both teams. They round out the schedule with a final game at the Scugog Arena January 19 against Little Britain. Playoffs will get underway the week of January 20 with the top four 'teams having their pick of who they wish to play from the four teams who finish at the bottom of the standings. Bowmanville will finish first and will have the first pick. The Eagles have defeated Port Perry in four games this season and might select the MoJacks as their opening round opponents based on the record from league play. .
