Arena. It was a good turnout as teams travelled from as far away as Barrie, Brampton and Palmerston to participate. With six local teams present it . was quite fitting that the league took home three of the top four positions as Utica Farm Equipment 'were runners-up in the 'A' division and Beacock's Hardware downed B&L Donuts to split the 'B' division hardware. The tournament got started at 7:00 a.m. with Utica" blanking Oshawa Home Video 6-0. The scorers were lan Down and Bill Down with 2 apiece and singles go- ing to Chester Down and Kevin Ib- 1" There was some fine curling at the Blackstock Club December 30 as eight teams squared off in the annual Mens Club Spiel. When the final rock had been thrown, the rink skipped by Robert Archer (second from left) came out on bittson. In their second game they eliminated Oshawa's Weedman by 3-1. Bill Down, Murray Down, Chester Down and Ken Fraser did the damage in this game. The cham- pionship was a rather chippy affair as Utica clashed with the Figure Design Rangers of Barrie. Utica struck first midway through period number one as Bruce Smith set up Chester Down. It looked like Utica may get away with the champion- ship until with 2:08 to play in regula- tion time the Rangers tied it up. On Sunday, January 5th, the Auc- tioneers travelled to Lindsay to play what proved to be a very exciting game. Port played a very ag- gressive game constantly putting thg¢ Lindsay goalie to the test. Although they had many chances in the 1st period they just couldn't beat the Lindsay goaltender. Lindsay, however, snuck one by Mikey but that lead was short lived as Port's Chad Kearns tied it up early in the second period on a perfectly ex- ecuted unassisted goal. With only 20 seconds into the 3rd period Port's Andrew Jones put in his 1st of the season since changing from defence to wingman. Andrew was a strong defenceman but he is proving to be even more dangerous to the opposition on offence. Way to go Andrew! Jay Tredway and Davey Bourgeois got well earned assists on that goal. Good linework boys! Later in the 3rd period Lindsay tied it up and then 2 minutes later put in one more. The game ending with Port down 3-2. Port really made Lindsay work for their victory as it was anybody's game right up to the last second.
