- . With one game left in their regular schedule, the Port Perry "© *MoJacks continue in a slump that "started before Christmas and has left the team without a win in their last seven games. : ~The MoJacks suffered two more defeats last week, 10-5 in Port Hope Thursday night, and a 7-3 loss at the hands of the Lindsay Muskies at the * Scugog Arena Sunday evening, The MolJacks have dropped into sixth place in the eight-team Junior C loop with 20 points and could be over-taken by both Port Hope and Little Britain who have 18 and 17 points each. With the victory Sunday night, the Lindsay Muskies have 23 points and can finish no worse than fifth in the league standings. Against the Muskies at the Scugog Arena, the MoJacks fell into a hole early in the game as the visitors scored just 45 seconds into the first period. Both teams showed a lot of hustle throughout the fast and hard-hitting first period with the MoJacks get- ting on the board with 1:21 left as Rob Nicholson and Andy Sutch com- bined to set up Brian Nicholson on - a power play. But the Muskies took the lead again with 43 seconds on the clock as Paul Ellis beat Ken Har- man from in front of the net. The visitors made it 3-1 midway through the second as Dave Kearns "rapped in a rebound after Harman had stopped an initial breakaway. But the MoJacks evened the score at 3-3 with Jeff McColl getting both markers. He poked a loose puck behind Muskie netminder Phil Callaghan at 13:57 and three minutes later as the MoJacks enjoyed a power play, McColl drilled a low slap shot to the glove side from 25 feet out. The third period belonged to the Muskies as they scored four unanswered goals en route to a 7-3 victory, with Dave Kearns netting a pair to complete his hat trick. Mid- way through the period, the Mo- Jacks enjoyed a man advantage for four minutes, but: couldn't beat Callaghan who made some fine stops in the Lindsay cage. What had been a fairly clean game turned nasty in the third period with three players on each team involved in fights. Lindsay for- ward Paul Fisher had to be helped from the ice when he took a high stick from Jeff Bricknell. Fisher was knocked cold and Bricknell wound 'up in the box with a two minute minor. The MoJacks used newcomer Darren Nesbitt on defense for the first time, a player from the Oshawa Junior B's. He handled the puck well and got away. some hard shots on ° goal. With a goal and an assist, Brian Nicholson still has a chance to win the league scoring title over Bowmanville's Daryle Rowe, but Nicholson will need four goals in his next game to reach the all-time Junior C goal title of 57 in a single season. In other Junior C action Sunday night, Cobourg and Lakefield skated to a 66 draw, and Bowmanville defeated Little Britain 2-0. As of Sunday night, the unofficial standings show Bowmanville alone in first with 43 points, followed by Cobourg with 30, Uxbridge with 29, Lakefield with 26, Port Perry with 20, Port Hope with 18 and Little Bri- tain with 17. Port Hope has two games to play and Little Britain has three. The MoJacks last game will be this Sun- 22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, January 14, 1986 MolJacks can't shake slump day atthe Scugog Arena against the Little Britain Merchants in a match that .could very well decide who finishes last in the league standings. Obviously, the MoJacks have to be looking ahead to the first round of the' playoffs which open next week. Just who the team will meet won't be known until this coming Sunday when the regular schedule ends. - The MoJacks appear to be a bet- ter hockey team than their record, especially the last few games, would indicate. They have been struggling, taking foolish penalties and having all kinds of trouble defensively. But they have proven to be an ex- plosive team that can score goals in bunches. If they can *'catch fire" and shore up the defensive play, the MoJacks could be tough to beat no matter who they meet in the best of seven opening round of playoffs.
