On Saturday, January 11 the Mal- mont Farm Atoms travelled to Oshawa to play an exhibition game against the L.N.H.L. Black Hawks. By showing lots of hustle and desire - the Green Machine skated to a 8-3. victory pushing their unbeaten streak to 4 games for the new year. In the first period Steve Laird open- ed the scoring with the assist going to Brad Moase and Jeff Parry. At the 14:44 mark Jason Cochrane scored with the assist going to Sean McEnaney and Lindsay Parry. In the second period the Malmont Farm Atoms continued to buzz the net scoring 4 more times. At the 10:22 mark Jason Cochrane scored assisted by Mike Sluggett. At the 11:05 mark Steve Laird rushed through on a solo effort to collect his second goal of the game. At the 12:16 mark Sean McEnaney scored assisted by Lindsay Parry and Gavin Cochrane. At the 13:40 mark Lindsay Parry banged in the final battle for tie On Saturday January 4, Port Perry IGA Belles hosted Markham in an exciting game. This was the teams first experience in no zone play and both the team and the fans enjoyed it. Stephanie Whitehead opened the scoring ten minutes into the first period on a pass from Kelly Storry and Lori Newell. The girls held this' lead well into the second period un- til Markham scored twice. Twenty four seconds later Port tied it up when Kelly took a pass from Stephanie and put it in the goal. Five minutes later Markham again took the lead on a single goal but Port wasn't finished. Kelly fed a pass to - Stephanie who found the mark to tie the game with just three minutes re- maining. The final 3-3 score was a tribute to the rest of the team who played a strong defensive game and to Donna McIntyre who played a great game in goal. Sunday found the team in Oshawa and although they. again played a very strong game the goals were not forthcoming. Darting Darcy Head picked up a lose puck in front of the goal and made no mistake. Weinhold and Jim Jackman assisting. Game 2 IGA - 4 Consumers Gas - 3 Eric Douma with 29 seconds to go gave IGA a 4-3 win over Consumers Gas, his third goal of the night. Eric got IGA an early lead then Ed Toffin added the second goal before the Gas Works could get go- ing. Then Chris Menzies put the Gas Works on the board, first period over 2-1 IGA - picking up assists for IGA Gerry Douma, Chris Lavereau, Mike Griffin and Steve Armstrong. IGA got the lone goal in the second period from Eric Douma's stick - Mike Griffin assisting. Neil Mark scored on a pass from Darryl Bradt, then Dale Leask tied it after having be- ing set up by Menzies, before IGA scored to win. December 21 Game Cochranes - 7 - Consumers Gas - 2 The Gas Works after playing outstanding on Friday night just couldn't put it together on Saturday against the Trotters. Rob Jamieson opened up the scor- ing for the Horsemen on a pass from Dave LeRoy. Chris Carr added a goal with Rodway and Halligan ad- ding assists. Jon Rodway scored the third goal of the period with Halligan assisting. The Trotters continued in the se- cond with Dave LeRoy scoring unassisted. The Gas Works finally got on the score board on passes from Adam Danter and Vince Tripp. Jon Rodway got his second goal of the game. Then early in the third _period picked up his third hat trick of the year with help from Marvin Hughes. Dale Leask put the second goal in for the Gas Works, Neil Mark and Chris Menzies assisting. Peter Brock got the seventh goal after Ron Halligan worked the puck from cor- ner. Final score Trotters 7, Gas Works 2. - 4 Emmersons - 2 IGA - 1 Jason Weinhold put Emmerson ahead 1-0 in the first period as Ian Hobbs and Mike Clarke turned in some nifty goaltending before Joe Jackman scored to put re-writes ahead 2-0 in a close checking game. The visitors came on strong in the third period and came within a whisker of a tie after Eric Douma pulled them to within one before time ran out. Even with two men in the penalty box - two line passes off sides did them in.
