GL ST CF # Es FS Building record set with $12.7 million permits Scugog Township had a record year for construction in 1985, accor- ling to figures from the municipal building department. The value of building permits issued by the Township last year soared to a whopping $12.7 million. That's an increase of about $4 million over the value of permits in 1984. Scugog Township council has moved one more step towards buy- ing a new pumper truck for the fire department based in Caesarea. - Councillors on Monday reviewed a quote for a new pumper from an Alberta company and approved a resolution asking that the specifica- tions quoted meet the demands of the department. More insurance (From page 1) very few damage claims against it. But the danger is that one case, with a huge judgement against the municipality could result in severe hardship for the taxpayers, over a long period of time. The Township currently pays about $18,000 in yearly premiums for the $5 million in liability in- surance with the Frank Cowan Company. The present policy expires at the end of June and negotiations will start some time in May for the new policy. Mr. Cuddie said he fully an- ticipates the premiums costs to take a jump this year, but he doesn't ex- pect they will be in 300 per cent range that some municipalities have had to pay. The liability covers all municipal- ly owned buildings, facilities and property, including arenas, ball diamonds, community halls and public parks.
