Their 1st op- ponents were the team from Orono. Although Port dominated the play they were unable to get on the scoreboard until early in the 3rd period when Sandy Mark put one behind the Orono goalkeeper, «assisted by Chad Kearns and Clay Scott. Shortly after this goal, Port's Brent Harper broke away and scored a beautiful unassisted goal. The game ended with Port winning 2-0. Later that afternoon Port faced off against the home team from Millbrook. Although both teams continued to give their best the Millbrook team scored ending a really terrific game of hockey. Although the novice team hasn't been lucky in overtime play, just remember boys, keep trying your turn is coming! It would be hard to pick out stars during this tournament with Sandy getting 2 key goals; Brent and Chad getting a 1 goal and 1 assist; Davy a nice goal; Scott, Clay and Jay T. Scott Howey, lan Griffen and Susan .._. ...vich. Bank manager Tom Mullen made the trophy all picking up assists and all the boys that didn't get on the scoreboard making many terrific plays. The defencemen Clay, Keith, Gavin, Jay, Scott and Brett made many great defensive plays along - with our super goaltender, Mike Pashley. All the J.T. Pearce Auc- tioneers are stars! Great tourna- ment boys. Sunday the Novice No.1 travelled to Oshawa for an exhibition game against the Oshawa Black Hawks. Port still high from their previous days events came out at top speed totally dominating the Black Hawks. Today was Jay Tredway's day for scoring goals. Although Jay is always a threat to the opposition he really proved it as he notched a well earned hat trick. Great game Jay. Chad Kearns picked up a goal and Davy Bourgeois, Keith Haist and Brett Lawson each counted for an assist. Good work boys! Port won the game 4-2. This game demonstrated the passing and shooting drills the coaching staff have been practicing with the team this week. Once again the constant encouragement, hard work and patience of Bob, Ken, Murray and Greg is showing in the way the teams hockey skills are developing. This Friday night the-Novice No. 1 will play host to Pickering at 7 p.m. Keep trying boys, you can do it! Close In an action packed game Allen - Aluminum Tweens were edged out by Whitby 6-5. The first period closed at a 3-3 tie with Lisa Levy scoring all three goals; 2 assists went to Sylvia Dur- ward and 1 to Lisa Toye. In the second period, scoring for Port were Nicole Slack and Linda 'Crawford both from Nicky Beare. This was an exciting game girls. Keep up the good work! Curling Corner by Scott Howey This past weekend the Port Perry ~ Curling Club held the annual Royal Bank mixed bonspiel. The spiel was won by the team of Scott Howey, Debbie Van Camp, Ian Griffen and Susan Labanovich. On January 11, the Stedmans' Ladies bonspiel was held at the club. Following the games, entertainment was provid- ed in the form gf a T.V. game show and Joyce Stableford won the big deal of a trip to Tobago. Marion Laird was the winner of a set of lawn furniture for her shot which was the closest to the one foot circle. The Club Level playdowns for the 0.C.A. Colt competition were held on Sunday. In the first round Ralph Fairman downed Vern Vogel while Scott Howey defeated Robin Parish. The second round saw Howey beat Fairman to win the A side and Parish eliminate Vogel. In other curling action the Port Perry rink of Art Stableford, Pete Makarchuk, Jim Smitherman, and Bill Corbett defeated the rink of Lindsay Death, Oscar Beare, Peter Poole and Cliff Redman to win the Dr. Harding Trophy at the Oshawa Curling Club. Jan Towns rink of Judy Latta, Wendy Bently and Lin- da Tingle won the Whitby 2 day bonspiel. Hoppy Carnwith was runner-up in the 3rd event while Sal- ly Foster, Jeanne Goode, Louise Haugen and June Haynes won the 4th event.
