However, cheer up, I'm sure we'll ~ have plenty of wintery weather ahead for at least another six weeks, but we'll have to wait until next Sun- day to see what Mr. Groundhog has to predict. I realize that the following is belated, but since I haven't written this column for several weeks, 1 haven't had the opportunity to ex- press appreciation to all of those teachers and students who were responsible for the White Gift ser- vice and the annual Sunday School Concert. Both were exceptionally well done, and I believe when I say both were the best productions in re- cent years -- that I'm speaking for all the parents, grandparents and friends who attended these two events. I wonder why it is that most of us sneeze, sniffle and cough our way through most of the month of January every year. Some folks have been suffering with a miserable flu bug as well as the snif- fles. We hope all of you who have the 'bug' are soon feeling better. Best wishes to Bruce Carr, who is making a remarkable recovery following heart surgery in the Toronto General Hospital. Also our thoughts are with Bob Sears who has recently undergone major surgery in the Oshawa General, and despite some setbacks, is recovering steadily. Hope you'll soon be home Bob! Congratulations to Mrs. Ellen Bruce and Mrs. Diane Knutson who have agreed to share the respon- sibility of Superintendent and .Secretary-Treasurer for the Sunday School. A very special 'thank you' to Al Wray and Ken Sturman who have recently resigned from the above positions. In the past issues of the Star, much has been done to publicize the efforts of a dedicated group of high school students and one of their teachers, Mr. Paul Arculus who have formed an active and en- thusiastic group of teens called S.A.D.D. (Students Against Drunk Driving). One of the main purposes of this group is to educate both teens and adults about the dangers of drinking and driving. The catalyst that sparked the for- mation of this group was the high number of young folks who have lost their lives in auto crashes during the past few years in this particular area. We wish them continued suc- cess with this awareness prograin. The community as a whole, are very proud of the initiative and motiva- tion of this terrific group of young people, who, in their own way, are possibly saving the lives of their friends and maybe even some of the parents. Drunk driving is certainly not a problem associated with teens only, many adults who should know better continue to play Russian Roulette with their lives and those who are innocent victims. _ If you wish to learn more about this organization, you are warmly welcome to attend a public meeting of S.A.D.D. at the Port Perry High School on February 5th at 7 p.m. Couples who are contemplating marriage at Greenbank, Seagrave or Pinedale Churches, during the coming year are cordially invited to attend a "Get-together" from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Greenbank United Church on Saturday, February 22nd.
