I know in many places, the mention of the word 'Ringette' still evokes puzzled looks and the in- evitable question 'What is Ringette?" If you are one of the unknowing many, it is time you became one of the knowledgeable. The week of February 3rd to 10th has been declared Ringette Week -- you will see girls wearing their sport sweaters to school. Also, there will be notices of special events taking place in your area. Malmont Farm Atoms On Saturday, January 25, 1986, the Malmont Farm Atoms travelled to Bowmanville to play in the first game of their playoff schedule. This game proved to be a real tight con- test as it ended in a 3-3 draw. The first period saw both clubs score once, scoring for the Green Machine was Jason Cochrane, assisted by Steve Laird and Jeff Andrews. "In the second period both clubs again scored one goal to keep the game even. Scoring for the Atoms was Jody Logan assisted by Jason Cochrane. SL ,, January 24th, the J.T. Pearce Auctioneers hosted the Pickering select team for their third match-up of the season and came up with a well earned victory. The first goal of the g ame late in the first period as centréeman Kenton LeFort took the draw, drop- ped it back to defenceman Scott Heasman, who rocketed it past the Pickering netminder. Nice work, boys. The second period was scoreless but saw Port keeping the pressure on by constantly racing the Picker-. ing players for the puck. In this game all the forwards real- ly shone with their passing, back checking and constant hustle. The offensive lines consist of Jay Tred- way, Davy Bourgeois and Andrew Jones, Kenton LeFort, Greg Thomp- AC Es CS REL py o-- 2 TROPHIES and ENGRAVING. PINE RIDGE SPORTS In the third period it was just a repeat of the 1st and 2nd period as both clubs found the mark only once. Scoring for the Green Machine was Jeff Parry assisted by Steve Laird and goaltender Shawn Larocque. In this game the Malmont Farm Atoms displayed a lot of fire power as they outshot the Bowmanville squad 27-10 but could only draw a tie. Next playoff game is scheduled for Saturday, February 1, 1986 at Port Perry Arena at 7:30 p.m. when they take on the same Bowmanville team. Pearce Red Men fly son and Brent Harper, Joey Broad- worth, Sandy Mark and Chad Kearns. Way to "fly you Red Men!" As the 3rd period opened up Port's Brent Harper put goal number 2 bet- ween the pipes on a centering pass from Davy Bourgeois. Way to pass boys! Although Pickering scored one late in the game Port kept their lead winning the game 2-1. Great game team.
