The annual Farmers Bonspiel, sponsored by Utica Farm Equipment, was held Saturday at the Port Perry Curling Club with 16 teams com- peting. When the last rock was thrown, Ron Parish's rink was declared the winner with 48 points. With Ron are Robin Parish, Bruce Ferguson and Keith St. John. At left is Utica Farm owner Arnold Kerry who made the trophy presentation. Runner-up in the spiel was Bert Third of Omemee with 45.5 points. House League action NOVICE Don Forder Ins. - 3 ~ Kinsmen - 0 Neil Mueller led the way with 3 goals for Don Forder Ins. as they defeated - Kinsmen 3-0. Forder assists Mike Nichols with 1. Davids Hairstyling - 3 Remax Realty - 2 Davids Hairstyling and Remax Realty played a see-saw battle with Davids ending up on top 3-2 over Remax. Davids scoring Jeremy Norton, Matt Phoenix and Matt McClelland with 2 assists going to Adam Hunter. Remax scoring Bil- ly Zaparanuik and Ricky Olaisen with an assist to Jeff Fletcher. Port Perry Printing - 3 Gord Lewis -3_ This contest went right down to the wire with Port Perry Printing leading 3-2. Gord Lewis kept the pressure on and scored to tie 3-3 with 2 seconds to go. Muskies scoring Jeff Jamieson 2 goals and Tom Durward with 1 all unassisted. Lewis scoring Craig Laird 1 goal, 1 assist; Bran- don Puckrin and Graham Holt the game tied. Assists by Brad Slanley and Mike Heasman. PEE WEE Scala - 5 Larocque - 2 Scala defeated Larocque with a hat trick going to Mike Butt and two goals to Vince Criscione and one assist each for Kevin Bardeleben, Rod Ashton, Kevin Knapp and Carl Payne. Larocque's goals came from David Volman and Gord Ireland 'with both assists going to Mark 'Tomkiewich. Emiels - 8 Frank - 4 Emiels started slow but came back to defeat Frank. A hat trick and 1 assist to Craig Leask; 2 goals, 2 assists to John Collins; 2 goals to Mark Shepperd; 1 goal, 1 assist to John Woodward and 1 assist to Herb Hatch. Frank's scorers were Cole Parry ° with 2 goals, 1 assist; Sam Shewan 1 goal; Paul Kett 1 goal and 1 assist to Kyle Russell and John Ausman. BANTAM 'Saturday, February 1 Consumers Gas - 9 I.G.A. -5 Consumers Gas took command of this game early; didn't give 1.G.A. enough time to breath, and never let them get back in their game as they won going away 9-5. In the losing cause, Gerry Douma, had enough time to pick up a hat trick of 3 goals while Bobby Orr add- ed two for himself. Mike Toye pick- ed up the assist in this game and was a real work horse, while Ed Tof- fin added two assists, and Eric Douma and John Sturman had one each. The Consumers Gas turned in a very work-men like effort on their way to victory. Pearce Auctioneers travelled to TROPHIES and ENGRAVING PINERIDGE SPORTS sHOP Queen St., Port Perry 985-2839 ram m---- Stouffville for their tirst game of the playoffs. The teams were evenly matched and the fans enjoyed a close hockey game with good end to end action. In the second period the Stouffville team snuck one by the Port Perry netminder and this proved to be the winning goal. Although Port's Novice 1's made many good rushes, they were unable to capitalize. Port's goaltender, Mike Pashley, played an outstan- ding game in net. Their next game of the playoffs is here in Port on Friday, February 7th at 7:00 p.m. when the Auc tioneers host the Uxbridge team Good luck, boys. See you there! Darryl Bradt all had one goal each. Cochranes - 7 Emmersons - 3 This was a game where Cochranes twosome played tic-tac- toe. Ron Halligan and Jon Rodway each had 3 goals and 3 assists each in this game as they worked the puck with teammates in their win. Peter Brock scored the lone goal - the seventh, as M. Hughes had 3 assists as did K. Roane. P. Brock, V. Criscione and R. Jamieson all had one assist each. Jason Weinhold scored two of the Emmersons goals while. Joe Jackman had the other. Four players had one assist each, J. Not- tingham, M. Haines, K. Smart and Jim Jackman. Final score 7-3 for the Trotters. Sunday, February 2 Emmersons - 3 Consumers Gas - 0 Both these teams played it close and tight. The passing was great as both teams were trying to make that first break through. But it didn't come about until the third period when Chris Logan jammed one in on the short side to give Emmersons the lead, 1-0, after two periods of play. Jason Bertrand then scored twice "to give the rewrites a 3-0 win over the Gas Works. Adding assists for Emmersons were Jim Jackman and Joey, Ken Smart and Darcy Head. 1.LGA. - 4 Cochranes - 1 After Saturday's game loss, 1.G.A. decided they had better start and play some hockey or they'll lose their top spot in the standing. It didin't take them long though as Ed Toffin scored in the first period from Gerry Douma. Eric Douma scored, then Toffin added his second goal. All this came about before Kip Roane of the Trot- ters scored from Rob Jamieson. Picking up assists for 1.C A. was Mike Toye, Steve Armstrong and Chris Lavereau. In the third period 1.G.A. again shut down the top two scorers in this league as Hobbs came up hot in the nets - Eric Douma got the lone goal on a pass from John Sturman. Final score 4-1 1.G.A. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 4, 1986 -- 23 Playoff spots still up in the air one team has a solid position for the play-offs with 1 week of play left. Sportsland - § J&D Carpentry - 1 Sportsland jumped out to an ear- ly 4-0 lead and skated away to a 5-1 triumph. Don Orr and Doug Suppelsa scored 2 goals each, with Ken Smart scoring number 5. Assists to Ron Zaparanuik (4); Dan Carty (2); and Ken Smart (1). - Scoring J&D's lone goal was Joe Curran assisted by John Connors and Ed Olsen. Galley Fish & Chips - § Crandells - 4 Galley Fish and Chips scored 4 straight goals and held on to defeat Crandells 54. Scoring for Galley were George Gladish, Rick Olaisen, Dale Bron- son, Larry Page and Ken Little. Assists to Rick Olaisen, Ken Little, Carl Fitzgerald and Bill Hurst. Crandells goals by Wayne Taylor, Dave Mann, Ken Jeffrey and Donovan Smith. Assists to Wayne Taylor (2); Dave Mann, Glen Hud- son, Ken Jeffrey and Ray Zaparanuik. Atoms out on top in Mens League After 20 weeks of league play, not Larocque Electric - 2 B.J. Donuts - 1 This was a fine defensive game with great goaltending at both ends of the rink. Larocque opened the scoring on a three way passing play. Mark Jobb scored with assists to Ken Toms and Ritchie LeFort. B.J. Donuts tied the game late in the second period on a goal by Mike Adam, assisted by Bruce Gracie. Larocque's Ken Toms put his team up 2-1 assisted by Ritchie LeFort and proceeded to hold off B.J.'s attackers to preserve the victory. Compton T.V.-§ "Smiths - 0 Last place Compton T.V. finally showed they're scoring power enroute to a 5-0 drubbing of first place leader Smith Contracting. Leading the way for Compton was Dave Bourgeois with 3 goals; John Foster 1 goal, 1 assist; Dave Roth 1 goal and 2 assists; Mike Fitzgerald and Greg Roberts with 1 assist each. Next Sunday is our last league games before the playoffs. So, come on out to see which teams play which, for the semi: final round. in tough victory over Uxbridne On Sunday Feb. 2, the Malmont Farm Atoms travelled to Uxbridge and played another tough playoff game only this time they came away with a very impressive 7-3 victory. In the first period Jason McBride opened the scoring for the Green Machine with the assist being earn- ed by Jason Cochrane and Duane Empringham. With only 26 seconds on the clock, Jeff Parry notched his goal with the assist being given to Steve Laird. The second period saw lots of skating and some very tough check- ing by both clubs. At the 6:10 mark Jason Cochrane scored: with the assist being given to Jason McBride. The third period belonged to the Green Machine as they skated hard and exploded with four more goals. At the 13:10 mark Jason Cochrane scored his second of the game with the assist going to Jeff Parry and Steve Laird. At the 11:52 mark Jeff Parry scored his second goal of the game with the assist earned by Jason Cochrane. At the 10:17 mark, Brad Moase found the mark assisted by Jason Cochrane. At the 9:48 mark Steve Laird scored the final goal unassisted. Special Note: To Shawn Larocque who played very steady between the pipes to earn the victory. Con- gratulations to all the boys on the team as you showed that hard skating and hustle will bring good results.
