Big Brothers were the winners in this years Bowl for Millions "Celebrity Challenge' as the councils of Scugog and Uxbridge raised about $700 for the organization. Uxbridge walked-off for the fourth year in a row with the trophy Mayor Gerri-Lynn O'Connor. Those taking part in the annual event are, back left: Yvonne Christie, Lawrence Malcolm, Howard Hall, Barry Bushell, Cal Avery and Larry Austin. Killer Tomatoes in a thumping good match by Mark Barkey On February 1, the Goreski In- sulation Bantams travelled to Pickering and walked away with a 6-4 victory. Pickering jumped up on the scoreboard in the first thirty seconds much to the dismay of the Port squad. Port Perry struck back with a goal from Mark Barkey on a perfect pass from linemate Jamie Menzies. In that same period, Mark Barkey scored assisted again by Jamie Menzies and Steve Connors. Port then made it 3-1 on a goal from Jamies Menzies assisted by Clair Cornish and Brad Traves. Brad Menzies made it 4-1 as he scored on an unassisted effort. Clair Cornish then scored assisted by Brad Men- zies. Port's last goal came from Mark Barkey assisted by Brad Men- zies and Shawn Nanay. The Killer Tomatoes continued the onslaught as they hosted Whit- by and thumped them 4-1. Jamie Menzies put Port on the scoreboard first assisted by Mark Barkey and Andrew (Bud) Steele. Clair Cornish made the scoreboard light up again as he scored assisted by Mike Sorley and Andrew Steele. Mark Barkey scored our third on a penalty shot. Our last goal came from Warren Geer assisting was Mike Sorley. Port Perry then trounced the home team of Markham 7-1. Warren Geer got things underway assisted by Brad Menzies and Stephen Connors. Shawn Nanay then slipped one by the goalie assisted by Greg Stapleton and Clair Cornish. Greg Stapleton got his se- cond point of the game as he scored assisted by the two Menzies cousins, Brad and Jamies. Brad Menzies (playing a very strong game for Port) scored assisted by Jeff Oke. Grabbing his second of the night, Greg Stapleton scored assisted by his two linemates Jamie Menzies and Mark Barkey. Steve Connors put us ahead 6-1 as he scored on an unassisted effort. The last and seventh goal came from Clair Cor- nish assisted by Andrew Steele. Port's next game is Wednes- day in Port against Pickering at 7:30 and then again Thursday against their play-off rivals, Uxbridge at 9:00. So come on out and see some exciting hockey. I mean, how many of you have ever seen tomatoes play hockey? " Farm Atoms skate to an impressive victory On Friday Feb. 7, the Malmont Farm Atoms hosted Uxbridge to another playoff game and skated strong to come away with an im- pressive 6-3 victory. In the first period Jason Cochrane opened the scoring with the assist going to Gavin Cochrane and Steve Laird. With only 30 seconds showing on the clock Jason Cochrane scored his se- cond goal with the assist going to Gavin Cochrane. In the second period the Green Machine continued to skate hard and popped two more goals. At the 8:53 mark Sean McEnaney scored with the assist going to Lindsay Parry. At the 6:39 mark Jason McBride scored with the assist go- ing to Jason Cochrane. In the third period the Malmont Farm Atoms didn't relax but con- tinued to press hard by scoring two more goals to ensure the victory. At the 11:02 mark Duane Empringham popped his goal assisted by Jason cBride. The final goal for the reen Machine was scored by Jason Cochrane who earned the hat trick. His goal was assisted by Chad Garvock. This was a well played hockey game by the Green Machine as they 'displayed a solid team effort. On Saturday Feb. 8, the Malmont Atoms travelled to Bowmanville to play another playoff game.' This game proved to be a very tough match for the Atoms but by show- ing lots of hustle in the third period, they managed to skate toa 3-2 In the second period Jody Logan found the mark assisted by Jason Cochrane and Gavin Cochrane. In the third period the Green Machine continued to skate hard and show- ed lots of hustle and as a result scored two goals to earn the victory. At the 12:59 mark Steve Laird show- ed some very fancy stick handling and scored his goal unassisted. With only 1:15 left in the game, Gavin Bantams ousted On Friday, February 7, the Sport- sland Bantams travelled to Little Britain and lost 6-1. The loss eliminated the Red and White gang from the playoffs. Although both Port and Little Britain finished with a 5-2-1 won, loss, tie record, Little Britain advances because they had a better goal spread. Port had an off night and was never really in the game. Although they gave it their best effort it was just one of those nights when riothing went right. Robbie Brown scored the lone goal assisted by Kevin Gib- son and Derek Fitzgerald. Although the boys have been eliminated from the playoffs the season is not over as they will still play some exhibition games and possibly 1 or 2 tournaments. The first of these exhibition games is this Tuesday night at 9:00 against Oshawa Black Hawks. Cochrane scored the winning goal assisted by Steve Laird and Jeff Parry. Special Note: to Andrew Pereman who played a very steady game bet- The annual William (Bill) Beare Mixed Bonspiel was held Saturday at Port Perry Curl- ing Club with a visiting team from Tam Heather in Scarborough coming out on top, with 42 ween the pipes making some key saves.
