PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 11, 1986 -- 25 Three teams emerge on fop The playoff picture finally came to light this past weekend as Em- merson's, Utica and Beacock"s all came out winners. In a very tight game Emmerson's snuck past Oddfellows 2-0 in over- time. Throughout the contest there were numerous chances at either end of the rink but to no avail for either team as they couldn't get it into the nets. In the 5:00 minute overtime period Emmerson's Charlie Dennis pieked up an errant pass in the first minute and fired it home. With 1:50 to play, Dennis add- ed the icing to the cake as he bang- ed another one in from Gene Woodrow. Come the weekend of March 8, Emmerson's will be travelling to Lefroy to represent Port Perry in the Regional Playdowns at the In- termediate Tier II level. In game two on Sunday first place was up for grabs between Utica Farm Equipment and Goreskis In- sulation. In their thre ius meetings, Utica had won two, and Goreski's the other. As in previous meetings between these two it was high in tensity throughout before Utica prevailed by a 4-3 score Goreski's jumped out in front first as Randy Sullivan assisted Tim Powell for his first of two. Utica retaliated less than two minutes later when Mike Mitchell netted his first of two on a solo effort. Ken Fraser from Murray Down put Utica ahead before Goreski's tied it on a goal by Sullivan from Dave Dickson. Just prior to the end of the first period Utica again took the lead as Mitchell teamed with Ian Down. The second frame started with _ Goreski's enjoying a power play and it didn't take them long as Powell and Sullivan again teamed together to make the score 3-3. With 6:29 left to play in regulation time Ian Down won the face off back to Jack Monsma whose shot from the point found its way in. Utica and Goreski's will both be travelling to the Regionals as Elite and Intermediate Tier I reps. Third place Beacock"s Hdwe. blanked B&L Donuts 6-0 in the final game of the day. There was only one lone goal scored in the first period as Cordell Keuning passed over to Gord Bryans whose shot from the point found the corner. Beacock"s got rolling in the second half as Wayne McGuigan and Gary Toutant traded roles on the next two for a 3-0 lead. Two more defencemen con- nected as Tim Cochrane notched one from Ron Redman. With time winding down Laval Poulin shot one wide of the net which Ron Short slapped in as it bounced off the boards. Tom Wotten, unassisted net- ted the final. The Oshawa league hosted a mens/womens tournament at the "Manvers facilities over the weekend. The local mens league had five teams out of the six attend with Utica staying home. Goreski's were the only rep to the final as they met Figure Design Rangers on the 'A' side to whom they lost by a 3-0 score. The same Rangers team had knock- ed Beacock's out 4-0 in the semi final.
