Blackstock and Area News by Joyce Kelly Members of the community who are interested in the future of Cart- wright High School are reminded that the report of the School Accom- modation Committee will be brought to the Property Committee of the Durham Board on Wednesday evening and again to the Board on Monday, February 24th. Cars will be pooled on Wednesda y evening at C.H.S. at 6:30 p.m. For information call Sheena Williams or the High School. At the Cartwright Central Public School, the Junior Public Speaking Contest was held on Thursday after- noon with twelve contestants. Judy Logan won first place speaking on - Being a Teenager, and Aaron Larmer won second speaking on - Cross Country Skiing. On Sunday, the United Church Family Skating party will be held at the Arena from 2-4 p.m. followed by a Pot Luck supper at the Church from 4-6 p.m. The Blackstock Youth Group is sponsoring the S.A.D.D. -- Students Against Drunk Driving -- from Port Perry. This group of dedicated young people will speak to the meeting which is open to the public. 'Refreshments will be served. On Friday, a busload of members of our community enjoyed attending the Annual Garden Show held in Toronto. From all reports it was a very enjoyable day with the beautiful flowers and also new gardening equipment were viewed with hopes that spring will be com- ing before long. The Curling Club Executive met on Wednesday evening with Harold Wright, President conducting the evening's business. Reports were made from the Fletcher Bonspiel showing a successful event. The Kelly Bonspiel will be held on March 11th with 2 six-end games and 1 eight-end game for a cost of $48. Signs up soon for this Mixed Bonspiel. The Awards night will be held on Saturday, April 5th. A new programme will be offered at C.C.P.S. beginning this week for 8 weeks. Kindergym is a Y.M.C.A. programme for 3 to 9 year olds. From 6 to 7 p.m. the programme is offered for 3 to 6 year olds and the 7 to 9 year olds will be on from 7 to 8 p.m. For information call 986-4516. The Morning Unit of the UCW met at Margaret Mountjoys with eleven members and three visitors present. Ruby Van Camp gave a timely wor- ship on "Love" and led in a Spiritual Daily Dozen. The General Meeting will be on February 19th in the even- ing with the theme "Battered Women." On March 11th, the After- noon Unit is having a speaker- Jackie Neum. We have decided to cancel the Morning meeting and join with them. Grace Hall con- ducted a very interesting workshop on planning a program. Many helpful things arose from this. Meeting closed with the Benediction. The Afternoon Unit of the UCW met at the home of Kathleen Watts with 18 present, including guests Alma Taylor and Helen Bradburn. After dessert served by Kathleen, and Audrey Wright, the meeting began with the offering, which was dedicated by singing 'Lord of All Good Our Gifts We Bring to Thee." Devotional was given to Marion Larmer -- Friendship and impor- tance of making sew friends and keeping old friendships alive. Scrip- ture was taken from John 15, verses 11-15, followed by 'What A Friend We Have In Jesus." Program was conducted by Grace Hall and was on Program Planning -- Picking a topic, the purpose of choosing that topic, and how to pre- sent it. Groups of three, each took a magazine, picked a topic and planned a program. Roll Call was -answered with "'Something of In- terest about Our Native People."
