Emmerson"s - 3 IGA - 2 Both teams played heads-up hockey in the first period of play, as neither team could muster a goal. But in the second period the action got hot and away they went. Em- merson's opened the scoring on Jason Bertrand's goal after passes between Turner and Nottingham broke him in the clear. Chris Lavereau did not need much help after receiving a pass from Eric Douma, but Jason Weinhold came right to round out the scoring in the secoi.a period, Darcy Head assisting. 2-1 after two for Emmersons. Final 3-2 for Emmersons. First tournament areal eye-opener The sixth annual Mariposa Ringette Tournament was held Feb. 12 to 16. During that time the Port Perry Petite C's were scheduled to play three games and take part in the showdown. Game No.1 was Wednesday even- ing in the Oakwood Arena against "an old rival, Sunderland. They had a psychological advantage having just beaten our girls the previous week. They came on strong, grabb- ed an early lead and held on to win the game. Valerie Payne scored our only goal assisted by Shannon Brown. Following the opening ceremonies on Friday evening, our goalie and four team members took part in the showd Petite goalie took a turn in uci while four members of each team tried to score goals. We are proud of Sarah Coyne who made some great saves in net and Vicki Stainton, Valerie Payne, Brandy Harris and Michelle Fitzpatrick our shooters for their good work. Saturday morning we met a large, well practiced team from Richmond Hill. Our girls began skating a stong game and it appeared the teams were evenly matched. The initial energy however, was slowly to diminish until the final score show- ed Richmond Hill with a definite win. Sarah Coyne played well in net stopping numerous shots sent her way by the opposition. Sunday morning before the sun was up. we again arrived in Oakwood for a 7:45 game against the big, blue team from Richmond Hill. This time they simply proved to be too strong. Can we blame the hour? Port Perry finished on the low end of that score. This being our first tournament we wanted our girls to have fun. However, we also saw it as a valuable learning experience for them to see the various techniques and skills of teams from near and far and to observe the determination and dedication of whole teams to the sport of Ringette. Consumers Gas - 2 Emmersons - 1 This game started out like one or the other wanted to open it up ear- ly, and run away with it. But this was not to be, as the Gas Works played it tight to the vest. Jason Bertrand put the rewrites ahead early on a pass from Jim Jackman, but only to have Adam Danter bang home the puck after Derek Slack rattled a shot from the blue line. The Gas Workers got on the score board again late in the se- cond period on a goal by Mike Butt, with Daryl Bradt assisting. , Both teams played it hard in the third, but neither could pass the puck in the net.
