On Feb. 15 the Sportsland Juniors travelled to Oakwood for the Mariposa Tournament. Our first game was at 10:40 a.m. against Lambeth, who eventually won the junior segment of the tournament. This game was played well by both clubs as the score see-sawed back and forth until the sleeping tiger was awakened and outscored Port 6-3 in the final ten minutes ending in a 8-5 loss for Port Perry. Our next game was against Mariposa at 5:00 p.m. which ended Port Novice in battle of zeros On Friday, February 14th, the J.T. Pearce Auctioneers faced off against the Stouffville Clippers in their third playoff game. Port Perry opened the scoring early in the first period on a goal by Chad Kearns assisted by defenceman Brett Lawson. Their lead was short-lived as Stouffville tied it up 2 minutes later. But, 30 seconds later Port retaliated when Sandy Mark ended the period with an unassisted goal. Although Port had several good chances to score, they were kept off the board by the Stouffville net- minder. Stouffville scored 4 more unanswered goals and the game ended with Port down 5-2. Good try boys. On Saturday, the team travelled to Pickering and faced off against their opposition at the beautiful Pickering Complex. This was a real- ly great game with both teams play- ing solid end to end hockey. Although both teams had many scoring opportunities, the game end- edin a 0-0 tie. Each player gave 100 per cent effort throughout the entire game keeping Pickering tied up. Mike Pashley played an outstanding game in net foiling several Picker- ing rushes. Great teamwork boys!! In our next and as it turned out, our final game was at 9:40 p.m. against Gloucester, a team from the - - Ottawa area. This game was a real heartbreaker as we needed a win or a tie to advance to the finals. The score flipped back and forth until early in the second frame when Gloucester took a 54 lead and hung on to win.
