20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 25, 1986 Sports But It was so close in all three games, including overtime Port Atoms win tournament on home ice On Saturday, February 22 the Malmont Farm Atoms hosted an eight team tournament at the Port Perry Scugog Arena. After three hard fought games the Green Machine edged a team from Ernestown by a score of 1-0 to grab the A" Division championship. Teams entered in this years tour- nament were Oshawa L.N.H.L. Black Hawks and Red Wings; Peterborough, Whitby No.2; Picker- ing Village, Ernestown, Georgetown and the host team Port Perry Mal- mont Farm Atoms. The Consolation championship was won by the team from Georgetown. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME In this game the Malmont Farm Atoms were matched against an ex- tremely tough team from Ernestown. In the first period both clubs skated well but at the 4:17 mark the Green Machine took advantage of a Ernestown penalty and popped the only goal of the game. Scoring. for the Port Atoms was Jason Cochrane assisted by Jody Logan. The second and third periods saw some very ex- citing hockey but neither club could put the puck in the net as the defen- sive units as well as the goaltending were playing extemely well. The game ended in favour of Port Perry by a score of 1-0 giving th Port Atoms the championship victory. GAME 2 In this game the Malmont Atoms were pitted against an old rival from Peterborough and again the Green Machine held onto a one goal edge and skated to a 2-1 victory. In the first period Peterborough opened the scoring on a nice pass- ing play. In the second period the Green Machine fought back, at the 7:39 mark Brad Moase scored assisted by Steve Laird. . In the third period both clubs skated strong but at the 2:42 mark, Port Perry again took advantage of a Peterborough penalty and scored the winning goal. Scoring for the Green Machine was Jason Cochrane assisted by Jody Logan. GAME 1 In this game the Port Perry Atoms faced the Oshawa LNHL Black Hawks. This game proved to be an real see-saw battle. After regulation time the game was tied at 3-3 but only 32 seconds into the overtime period the Green Machine popped the winning goal to take the victory on a score of 4-3. In the first period Port Perry opened the scoring on a nice pass- ing play. Scoring for the Green Machine was Jeff Parry assisted by Jason Cochrane and Steve Laird. At the 2:54 mark, Port Perry took the "lead by advantage of a man in the penalty box. Scoring for the Mal- mont Atoms was Jeff Parry with his second goal of the game, assisted by Jason McBride. In the second period again the Green Machine took advantage of a man in the penalty box, scoring for the Port Atoms at the 8:28 mark was Steve Laird on a super stick handl- ing effort assisted by Lindsay Parry. The third period saw lots of hard skating but neither club could score forcing the game into a 5 minute sudden death overtime period. With only 32 seconds gone in the ovetime period, Steve Laird fired a Novice House League results Port Perry Printing - 8 * Remax Realty - 3 On Monday, February 17, Port Perry Printing defeated Remax Realty 8-3. Muskies scoring Sean Gawley and Jeremy Geer 2 goals, 2 assists each; Jeff Jamieson 2 goals with Bobby Cracknell and Jason Phillips 1 goal each and Jon Jamieson 1 assist. Remax scoring Ricky Olaisen 2 goals, Darin Kin- nunen 1 assist and Jason Brain 1 goal. Don Forder Ins. - 5 Davids Hairstyling - 4 Don Forders Ins. hung on to win over Davids Hairstyling 5-4. Forders scoring Mike Pashley 2 goals, 1 assist; Neil Mueller 1 goal, 1 assist; Jeff Vernon and Steve Gilbert 1 goal each. Davids scoring Jeremy Norton 2 goals; Adam Hunter 1 goal, 1 assist; Matt Phoenix 1 goal, Matt McClelland and Mike Leach 1 assist each. Kinsmen - 2 Gord Lewis - 1 Gord Lewis got on the scoreboard first but Kinsmen came back to record the win 2-1. Kinsmen scoring Jason Logan and lan McCready 1 goal each and Daryl McEnaney 2 assists. Lewis scoring Clad Mitchell assisted by Graham Holt. Davids Hairstyling - 1 Kinsmen - 1 Davids Hairstyling and Kinsmen played to a 1-1 tie in a very exciting game. Davids scoring Matt Phoenix assisted by Matt McClelland. Kinsmen scoring Daryl Bourgeois unassisted. Port Perry Printing - 6 Don Forder Ins. - 2 Port Perry Printing came out fly- ing in a well deserved win over Don Forder Ins. 6-2. Muskies scoring Jeremy Geer 3 goals; Brent Giles 2: goals; Sean Gawley 1 goal, 2 assists; Kevin Gray 2 assists; and Tom Dur- ward 1 assist. Forders scoring Tom Chambers 1 goal, 1 assist; Mike Pashley 1 goal and Neil Mueller 1 assist. Gord Lewis - 2 Remax Realty - 2 Remax Realty jumped out to a 2-0 lead but Gord Lewis fought back to tie. Remax scoring Jamie Trich and Ricky Olaisen 1 goal each, assists went to Billy Zaparanuik and Tim- my Fitzpatrick. Lewis scoring Brandon Puckrin and Kent Taylor 1 goal each, assists to Clad Mitchell, Ben Lewis and Graham Holt. hard point shot which was deflected into the top corner and earned the victory. This goal was assisted by Jason Cochrane. In the game for all the marbles, Port Perry came up against Ernestown and a very hot goalie. Port Perry pep- pered the Ernestown net with tough shots but could manage just one goal. That was all they needed for a 1-0 victory and the championship trophy.
