by Mark Barkey The Goreski Insulation Bantams were visitors in the familiar town of Uxbridge and fell victim to a 64 loss. Port jumped up first at the 10:51 mark of the first period on.a goal from Mark Barkey assisted by linemate Jamie Menzies. Uxbridge scored about one minute later to knot the score at one, but not for . long. It was just 48 seconds later that Uxbridge scored again to put them in the drivers seat. The score remained 2-1 until the 4:02 mark as Warren Geer scored assisted by Brad Menzies. Looking for the go- ahead goal, Port worked hard and it finally paid off as Clair Cornish made a nice move to put us in the lead assisted by Shawn Nanay and Mike Sorley. Port went to the dress- ing room for the break and felt good with the lead as they went back out again to try and hold on. Port again struck quick in the first minute as Clair Cornish scored again to make it 4-2. Maybe a lack of desire, or maybe just outhustled, Port found themselves watching their two goal lead disappear. Uxbridge then ex- ploded for 4 goals and went ahead 6-4. It was only 5-4 but Port pulled their goalie and they scored on an empty net. The score remained and Port found themselves down one game to nothing. It is also a very huge accomplish- ment when a player reaches the 50 goal plateau, and we say con- gratulations to Warren Geer who scored his fiftieth goal in this game. Good work Warren! Keep up the good work! With spirits high and a meeting before the game, Port was deter- mined to show Uxbridge what they were made of and boy did they ever! Port gave Uxbridge a solid poun- «ding to the tune of 7-1. Port started from the beginning and never game up until the final buzzer. Port started to hit hard and it seemed to be the key we had been looking for. With just six seconds left in the first period, Mike Sorley scored on a virtually empty net as the goalie made the mstake of ven- turing out just a little too far. Shawn Nanay assisted on the goal. Continuing their hard work, Port again scored at the 4:10 mark on a goal from Steve Connors assisted by Mark Barkey. Just a little more than a minute had passed when Brad Menzies helped our cause and - scored making it 3-0. Once again Port went to the dressing room with' a lead and were determined not to let this one get away. With only two minutes gone by, Warren Geer scored number 51 assisted by Brad Menzies. Uxbridge then scored their lone goal by Todd Williamson which he was said to have kicked up but not for sure. Andrew Steele then skated up the sidelines and let loose a slapshot that found a home in the bottom right corner of the net assisted by Brad Menzies. Making the score 6-1 was next in our minds and Jeff Oke made the thought a reality assisted by (again) Brad Menzies. The last and final goal was scored by Jamie Menzies on a deflection shot from Mark Barkey. The next game was played at Ux- bridge and Port lost a hard defeat by the score of 5-2. Uxbridge scored twice, very quickly and Port was caught napping. When the cobwebs finally cleared, Jamie Menzies - scored assisted by Mark Barkey and Greg Stapleton. Uxbridge scored again to make it 3-1 and left a very frustrated Port squad in their dust. Port came within one as Warren Geer scored to raise our hopes just a trifle. Down a goal, Port tried but just found no rewards as Uxbridge scored again taking the wind out of Port's sails and the final blow cathe as they scored again to sink our ship and leave us down two games to one. Port will have to play as hard as they did in the second game if they want to eliminate Uxbridge from the picture. Port's next game will be this Wednesday if it is necessary. So. if it does go five games, come on out and cheer us to a victory. The game will be in Uxbridge at 8:00. Utica wins it in 2 straight games Utica - 5 Emmerson's - 2 This semi-final came to an abrupt end as Utica took the best of three series two games straight. Emmerson's came out quickly and looked like they might tie the series as they built up an early 2-0 lead. Thirty-one seconds into the game John Gerber set up Charlie Dennis on a break away for goal number one. Dennis set up Bill Gerber on the next goal for the lead. Before the period had ended, Utica tied the score as Aldon Smith fed Ken Fraser in the slot and then with twenty seconds to go, Bill Down and Bruce Smith clicked. Less than three minutes into the final period Fraser assisted on Mike Mitchell eventual winner. The score stayed this way until with 2:45 to play Aldon Smith scored from Mitchell. The Pr------, TROPHIES and ENGRAVING PINE RIDGE SPORTS sHopP .. Port Perry 985. 2839 [)S---- final marker came from the broom of Bill Down aided by brother Murray. ? Goreski's - 6 Beacock's - 1 With this win, Goreski's tied this semi-final at one game apiece, as Beacock's had won the week before 2-1. On the first shift of the game Tom Carroll blocked a shot at his own blueline and raced in untouched to give Goreski's the lead. Blackstock's Tom Wotten then tied the game with Laval Poulin in pick- ing up the assist. Before the first period had ended Goreski's had again taken the lead this time on a goal by Mark Lee from Tim Ashbridge. Ashbridge added assist number two shortly after the second half started as Goreski's built up a 3-1 lead on Bill S(. John's goal. Lee got goal number two from Randy Sullivan to lengthen the spread in the score. Goal number five came off the broom of Carroll for his second of the match with the assist going to Tom Powell. Adding insult to injury Bart Wagar and Carroll connected with 13 seconds to play for the 6-1 win. The third and deciding game in this series gets underway next Sun- day at 4:00 p.m. Due to the Regional Playdowns on the weekend of March 8 the final series will not get underway until Sunday, March 16 at 4:00.
