With all the publicity Port Perry High School's SADD program (Students Against Driving Drunk) has been getting, it was inevitable that some TV station would want to do a. documentary-style feature in place of the now commonplace two minute news clip. : Leave it to the staid and solid CBC to come to town, not once, but twice, to interview everybody and their mother about the effect of SADD on the entire community. They wanted to get gan overall picture of the surroun- circumstances, with interviews - froi: various points of the community. I was one of those points. So was Neil Bradley and about 15 reluctant others. Well, sort of reluctant. I have to admit, when someone like Edith Champagne asks me to be inter- viewed ON CAMERA for her news program, I get excited. I tried to look nonchalant, as if I appear on national TV every day, but little fire bells were going off in my head like rockets, making non- chalance a virtual impossibility. I thought to myself, just be cool, it's only an interview, not too dif- ferent from any of the hundreds of "interviews I've conducted in my lifetime. "Only this time,' myself respond- ed "it's not you doing the interview- ing. What's more, you're going to be plastered all over the TV screen of somebody's living room. Maybe thousands of living rooms. Some beer guzzling guy in a white T-shirt with more muscles than skin cells is gonna be watching you. And you bet- ter hope he likes what you have to say . »" But that's not what I was really worried about. What really and tru- ly bothered me was the way I look- ed the day I was interviewed. Would I look fat, too dumpy, too plain, too greasy, too made-up, to dumb?
