Mrs. Gwendolyn Malcolm was the capable organist for this special service -- and Mrs. Mabel Cawker -- the Chairperson. A cordial welcome was extended to Rev. and Mrs. Dale Davis -- Student Minister Verna Windrem and to Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford from the Caesarea Community Church who shared in the service for the first time since the opening of Caesarea Church. So pleased Rev. Crawford could be with us. All those who at- tended were warmly welcomed, both men and women, by the Chairperson. The five 'churches within t area participated -- Blackstock United, Blackstock Anglican, Nestleton Presbyterian, Caesarea Community 'and the hostess church Nestleton United -- a combined service of fellowship and prayer. The Evening Unit of the United Church Women presented a short drama re- the women of the bible with Verna Windrem -- the nar- rator. This was very interesting- we have within the Unit many talented members. Music was provided by the young U.C.W. as well- a quartet composed of Betty Headon, Regenia Walker, Janice MacKenzie and Kay Notman sang two harmonious numbers, "How Long Has It Been" and 'When You Pray," with Carol Mairs accompanying on the piano. After a word of appreciation at the close of the service to all who assisted to make it a very special day -- and Benediction pronounced -- a friendly social time was en- joyed in the Sunday School room with lovely refreshments served buffet style by the Nestleton U.C.W. Trip of Interest Helen Campbell of Nestleton, ac- companied by a friend, has just returned home from a marvellous trip to Portugal. They holidayed there for five weeks viewing many attractive places of interest. First -- they stayed at Lisbon -- the capital city for a few days -- then went down to Algarve ... a popular vaca- tion spot for -- four great weeks. They also visited the beautiful city of Vestoril and while there, the travellers had a lovely room overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It rained for eight days which the Por- tugal people appreciated -- as it had been very dry for some time. They became acquainted with many fine folks on the trip -- a most enjoyable experience! Their tour was booked with Lawson Tours through the Port Perry Travel Agency. A wonderful way to have a change of scenery during the winter months! Nestleton Women's Institute March Meeting The first meeting after a two months winter recess was held on March 5, at the lovely home of Win- nifred Davison with eleven members and one visitor present. Vice-president Neta Fish presided in the absence of the President -- and brought the meeting to order ~ with a cordial welcome opening with the Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and read a poem entitled "Examina- tion' from Home and Country. The Roll Call was answered by telling something about a troubled area in the world. Secretary-Treasurer Marg France read the December minutes and presented an excellent financial statement. Correspondence includ- ed a lovely calendar from the sister W.1. -- the Grove Institute, Durham County in England. Cards were signed for the shut-ins. Conveners were reminded to have annual reports ready for the April meeting. Three copies are necessary with - name, address and telephone number on each report. .The Motto " The train of brother- ly love runs on the twin tracks of Concern and Compassion' was given by Bertha McLaughlin and she mentioned the train disaster in B.C., when many loved ones were lost. The word 'Love' is a very im- - portant word in our lives. Irish songs were enjoyed with Gwen Malcolm at the piano. A poem by Neta "The Modern Little Red Hen" proved interesting. Gwen Malcolm presented an excellent prayer on Citizenship, bringing to the fore many points of interest re- the in- fluence of the home, school, church, organizations etc.- in developing good citizens. Gwen had the Tweedsmuir History on display. She deserves much credit for her work in compiling this fine, factual book for their future reference. O Canada and W.1. Grace brought the meeting to a close. Carl and Dale Muirhead, Scugog Point, had a very busy weekend. On Friday evening, son Chad celebrated his 6th birthday with three little friends invited for the special occasion- which included- Richard Frew, Troy Hanna and Ben Stephenson. Chad received lots of exciting, colorful gifts, and his Mom had made cup cakes and each little guest decorated his own cake with faces etc -- a fun evening! Our best to Chad on his big day. On Saturday, Dale's family were luncheon guests. Parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Tapscott of Agincourt, sister Dana and friend Rick Antler, and nephew Matthew Tapscott. On Sunday, Carl's family were supper guests. Those present: Terry and Sue, Yvonne and Adam Muirhead, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Muirhead and Chad's great grandmother Mrs. Iva Parkhurst, all of Oshawa, Laverne and Suzanne, Amanda and Jackie Muirhead of Pontypool and George Warman and Mother of Whitby. Calvin and Yvonne Holland, Chad, Craig and Alanna Dawn of Bowmanville were Saturday supper guests with his mother Mrs. Neta Fish of Nestleton. Sympathy goes out to Mrs. Neta Fish in the loss of a favourite cousin Mr. Doug Roy of Saskatchewan who passed away March 6th. Doug spent a few weeks with Grahame and Neta in Nestleton a few years ago. We welcome Mrs. Christina Henderson of Scotland back to Canada for a few weeks visit. She is staying with her son-in-law and - daughter and family, Cliff and Chris Davis, Scott and Carleton, Scugog Point Road. We surely hope she'll have a wonderful holiday while here and go back home refreshed and happy! Nestleton United Church A very small attendance at Nestleton United on Sundya, March 9th, due to weather and road condi- tions and many were away for the March break. Rev. Dale Davis con- ducted the Service and told the youngsters a fine story before going to classes. It was delightful to welcome Elaine Barber back again and she presented a most enlighten- ing message of her Mission work at the Crisis Centre in downtown 'Toronto. We do wish Elaine well in her ministry. Ina Davis and family were the greeters at the door. The nursery was well looked after by Dwight and Arlene Davis. Our organist- Gwen Malcolm.
