, 8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 11, 1986 Sportsland wins bronze On Friday March 7 the Sportsland Juniors went to Oakwood to play in the 'B' Regional Tournament. Our first game was at 8:30 against Mariposa. This was a tight checking game with a final score of 2-1 for Mariposa. Excellent goaltending at both ends of the ice kept this game very interesting at all times. Our next game was at 11 a.m. on Sat. morning against another league rival Whitby. They came out fast and strong and ended the first period 4-0. Our girls woke up sometime during the second period to spoil a 7-0 shut out for Whitby to finish the game at 7-2. This put our next game at 3 p.m. against Mariposa. The Port team were determined to pull this one off for a win. Going into the second period down 2-1 our girls battled back to win 7-6. As the score in- dicated this was an exciting game especially when you consider there were 4 goals scored in the final 4 minutes. This win put us back against Whit- by again at 8 p.m. Our girls skated and checked continually in the first period ending it in a 3 all tie. The frustration of Whitby started to show in the final frame, as the Port Toll free. team stayed with their checks en- ding the game 6-4 in Port's favour. Our next game was at 11 a.m. Sunday against Ajax who showed their supremisty by defeating Port 6-2. Port skated well but just did not have extra drive that they displayed the night before. This gave Port the bronze medal ending us third overall. . Scoring for the weekend were Kim Loudfoot 6 goals, 2 assists; Sherry Harris 4 goals, 4 assists; Jen- ny Blanchard 3 goals, 4 assists; Kel- ly Calloway 2 goals, 2 assists; Col- leen Yorke 1 goal, 2 assists; Rachel Traynor 1 goal, 2 assists; Melissa Moehring 3 assists; Jennifer Pelow 1 goal, 1 assist; and single assists going to Cindy Harris, Kim Caudle, Val White and Michelle Beare. Our two goalies Terry Childs and Kerri Allen played super all weekend and kept us competitive i in all the games. _ The girls get to rest their many wounds and get ready for a playoff game on Sunday, March 16 against the Whitby squad in Port at 1:25. Come out and support the girls. Community Care has youth jobs Winter Break is the time when teenagers look ahead to summer jobs. Community Care has jobs with a difference.
