Thro it we may learn many incidents and events of our past local history. If you have lived on Scugog Island a long time, you may have some interesting recollections. Tho' descendants of many of the pioneers have moved on to other areas, it is interesting to note that many descendants brought up on the Island are anxious to return if they can find a desirable location. At this time, we call to mind the studied history of the area and recollections of Allen Martyn of Scugog Island as recorded in his re- cent paper back book which can be purchased at a low price from him or in some of the stores. Allen recalls family as well as many ex- periences and events gained thro' his residence in different areas, study, experience in various types of work and association with many people as well as travel. It is full of wit, detail, pictures, favourite poems, and quotations. You would be very pleased with your purchase price of $5. which is only a fraction of the publication. Perhaps the title - may be misleading and make you think it deals only with the Martyn family but it goes far beyond that. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have. With Easter very near at hand, we have interesting events ahead. At the Island United we again look for- ward to the Pot Luck Supper at 6:30 p.m. and Seder Meal on Maundy Thursday. Then a Good Friday ser- vice at Manchester. We hail Easter morning with the Annual Easter . breakfast at 8:30 a.m. to be follow- ed by the regular church service. This is getting to be a very popular occasion when the church families meet together Tuesday morning, April 1 at the Island United. Next day, April 2, not the 12th as formerly printed in the paper, the "Grace" UCW have their big event of the year -- The famous Beef Sup- per -- at 5,6, and 7 at the Communi- ty Hall. If you were slow in obtain- ing your ticket you have missed out on the 6 o'clock. But you may still get 5 or 7 by phoning Camille Crozier or Pat Taylor. Come and see the men at work too. Moore If you have ever walked into a cemetery to look at old monuments, you will have seen such headings as: 'Here lies ....." Then follows the name -- date of death -- and perhaps some words of praise for the deceased. But how different are the words which we associate with the tomb of Jesus. They are neither written in gold or cut in stone. They were spoken by an angel, and are the exact op- posite of what is engraved on other tombs. "HE IS NOT HERE ...... HE IS RISEN." If one believes in the actual, physical resurrection of Jesus Christ they will find no difficulty in believing anything else in the Bible. But if we reject this most cardinal of Christian doctrines -- we would 'be better off to throw away our entire Bible. Because Christ's uni- que divinity is not only at stake -- but man's own redemption and ultimate resurrection is also vitally involved. If Christ's resurrec: tion is not a reality -- then the hope and belief of man's immortality is nothing more than a delusion. If Jesus Christ did not rise from the grave on that Easter morning -- then His promises were false -- His prophecies untrue -- and we are yet in our sins -- and as the Apostle Paul put it we are all of men most miserable -- we have been duped. But this is not so HE ROSE FROM THE TOMB. He shattered the bonds of death -- and was victorious over the grave. And He says to each one of us "Because I live, you will live also." What a grand and glorious message is the message of Easter. Easter is a wonderful Celebration. It calls forth from us the most joyful jubilation. That is why the most joyful and thrilling hymns of the Church are the Easter Hymns -- the most uplifting and in- spiring Choral Anthems are the Easter Anthems. Because they are songs of victory and deliverance -- and from around the world and in every Christian heart there rings out that glorious shout of vic- tory -- HE IS RISEN -- HALLELUJAH. Our jubilation should know no bounds as we celebrate Easter once again -- when we remember and recall what Christ's Resurrection means for us. When Christ stepped out of the tomb that Easter morning -- night was turned into day for all generations. His resurrection assured and assures the resurrection of every Christian -- in every generation -- in every place. That Easter morning was a thrilling revelation to the whole world that the grave is not the end. DEATH DOES NOT END ALL. Yes, there is life after death. Not just a grim shadowy existence -- not just immortality -- but an entirely new dimension of life. Thus for man on the first Easter morning a great and glorious hope was born -- and that hope is this -- that when he leaves this earth -- when he leaves behind his family, friends and loved ones -- IT IS NOT THE END. For right before him is another Resurrec- tion Morning "when the dead in Christ shall rise." In answer to the age-old question, 'If a man dies, shall he live again?' Easter declares, "As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." Dwight L. Moody, that great Preacher said to a class of divinity students "One morning you will read in your newspaper that D.L. Moody is dead. Gentlemen, do not believe it -- for I shall be more alive then than I am now." Socrates, the Greek Philosopher said to his friends, "Bury me where you will -- but first make sure that it is me you have -- for the real me will continue on. That which is buried will not be me." A young wife and mother who recently lost her husband said to me "I have known he was alive from the very moment he died. I am conscious of his presence at every cut and turn." An older lady who had been widowed for a year or more said to me -- "You know, I am so sure he is near me that each time I enter the house I speak his name and tell him I'm home." This Easter Sunday myriads of people of every race and clime in churches all over the world will sing that glorious hymn ** Christ the Lord is risen today." And from every Christian pulpit the ser- mon theme will be this thrilling message of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and Christians around the world will rejoice that Jesus Christ is alive. But what does Easter really mean and what is the significance of the Resurrection for us in this chaotic world of 1986? Has it any message at all? It most assuredly has -- and that message is found in our Lord's own words -- "Because I live, you too will live." Death is not the end of the road -- it is the beginning of a whole new and wonderful dimension of living. Yes, it is true -- there is life after death. Over the tumult -- rumblings and tumblings that characteristics our world today -- through the dilemmas and misgivings that crowd our lives and haunt our age, comes the deathless assurance that a glorious future awaits us when our earthly day is done. This Easter Sunday go to the House of God and lift up your voice in singing -- Christ the Lord is risen today Sons of men and angels say; .
