With Doris Taylor, chairperson at the "helm"' with 23 captains and 250 canvassers ... the local Society is gearing up for one terrific drive. In rural areas the entire month is needed ... due to folks not home from the south ear- ly in the month ... also road condi- tions are a factor. Nestleton Family Night The Nestleton family night held in the Church Sunday School room on Saturday evening last, proved to be a great success. An excellent number of folks were on hand for a real fun night. Many talented families entertained with games, skits, songs, dances, instrumentals and so forth. A "highlight" of the party was the presentation of a gift of money to a lovely young bride-to- be Debbie Vine and her fiancee Michael Jordan ... who will be wed this coming Saturday in Nestleton Church. Mabel Cawker gave some timely advice to the couple and Gwen Malcolm made the presenta- tion. Our 'warmest wishes' to Deb and Mike for a wonderful life together. The family night closed ... topped off with a variety of doughnuts and beverages. A great night for the young fry! Our thanks to emcee Rob Mairs, Betty Headon and Janice MacKenzie who planned the event- ful evening. Blackstock & District (Cartwright) Lions Club News The last regular meeting of the Lions Club was held in the Rec Cen- trein Blackstock, with an excellent speaker Mr. Doug Heard of Oshawa . who spoke on the Alzheimer disease ... a premature aging disease ... not curable. It affects the nervous system and the brain ... an informative talk by the speaker and much appreciated by the local Lions Club and the many Lions present from other clubs. A most interesting evening! Oshawa Presbyterial Attended Eight Nestleton U.C.W. members attended the Oshawa Presbyterial meeting held at Trinity United Church in Bowmanville, on Tues- day, March 18. With the emphasis on our Native Indians, a most in- teresting program was presented. Barbara Catto introduced Mildred Redmond who spoke on "Council Fire" which is an Indian Centre in downtown Toronto. In the afternoon, Gladys Taylor of Curve Lake gave her life story and told of her work as a United Church Elder. Time was spent viewing the Native Crafts and the Book Display. Members enjoyed renewing acquaintances and par- taking of the delicious lunch provid- ed by the Trinity U.C.W. The meeting closed with a meaningful Worship Service presented by Carol Manning. May Margaret Ann Lamb of Manchester, the incoming Presi- dent, have a successful term. Nestleton United A gratifying attendance on Palm Sunday Service at Nestleton United with Arnold and Jean Williams greeting at the door. Verna Win- drem opened the service ... read the portions of Scripture and pleased the Sunday School youngsters with a cute story. Rev. Dale Davis spoke on "Envy and Pride" to complete the series on the 7 Deadly sins. Kay Notman, Regenia Walker and Janice MacKenzie sang a choir number with Gwen Malcolm accom- panying. The Sacrament of Holy Communion was observed. A very impressive ceremony with many assisting the minister. The Good Friday Service, March 28, 11 a.m. will be hosted by Nestleton United for the charge. We strust for a fine attendance. The U.C.W. general Executive meeting was held on Monday even- ing at the home of Gwen Malcolm, President. Plans were finalized for the Dessert Luncheon and Mini Fashion Show, April 15, and the Smorgasbord, May 2nd. Caesarea Euchre : At the popular card game on Wedneday evening the following are to. be congratulated: Walter Brown- high with 80; Second- Moonie 79; Two tied for low score- Tom Dean and Sandy each with 47. A nice lunch was served -- an enjoyable bit of diversion. Caesarea Community Church A very good company of folks on March 23, Palm Sunday Service. Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford's sermons was based on Luke 19: 34- entitled '"Needed For Service' a fine message. Kathleen Watt played for the service. Next Friday try and at- tend for the Good Friday Service with Rev. Charles Clarke of Port Perry, the special speaker. Special music will also be a feature of interest. Nestleton Presbyterian Church A very good attendance with Rev. Fred Swann reading Psalm 22 and Scripture, Isaiah 53, using as ser- mon theme "The Garden of Gethsamene" very appropriate for the Easter season. Holy Communion was celebrated. A fine number of children out to Sunday School, under the direction of Superintendent Dorothy Lee. Shirley Scott was the organist. It was announced that the new Interim Moderator is Rev. Stewart = MacDonald, from Centreville-Millbrook charge. Welcome to everyone for the special Service on Easter Sunday, March 28. Mrs. Neta Fish spent a few days ey with daughter Audrey and Jim Leishman and family this past week. She had a lovely visit with her son Calvin and Yvonne and family on Sunday.
