PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 1, 1986 -- 1) Merry Widow is not mourning this music treat The Scugog Choral Society's pro- duction of The Merry Widow is eagerly awaited by music lovers in and around Port Perry. The chorus has been practising twice a week, with the leads putting in an extra rehearsal on Sundays. With opening night just four weeks away, there is a frenzy of ac- tivity behind the scenes as well as on stage. Members of the Scugog Choral Society not only sing, but also take an active part backstage helping with costumes, makeup or set construction. Why do they do it? One member replied, 'Because of our love for music. All the work and rehearsals are worth it when we hear the au- dience applaud." Performances start April 30 and run until May 19.
