honours Last Thursday evening at Scugog - Memorial Arena, many members and friends of Port Perry Figure Skating Club gathered for the presentation of a gift to the club from former president Howard Hall. The gift is three attractive pic- tures of former club members who brought great honour to the club and to Port Perry by their successful competitive records. Dennis Johnston, with partners Kelly Hume and Chris MacBeth, placed second in the Novice Pairs division of the Canadian Figure Skating championship in 1973, and went on to place third in the Senior Pairs division in 1975. David Porter, with his partner Barbara Berezowski, won the Senior Dance championship in 1975 and again in 1976, when the couple went on to place seventh at World's and tenth at Olympics. The follow- ing year they won the World Profes- sional Dance championship. Richard Stephens and Anna Forder placed third in Canadian Skating Club stars from the past Senior Pairs in 1967. In 1968, they moved up to second place and skated in the Winter Olympics in . Grenoble, France, placing six- teenth. In 1969 they were Canadian Senior Pairs champions and placed tenth at Worlds. All four skaters are still involved in figure skating and three still live in the Port Perry area. Rick Stephens is presently senior coach with Port Perry Figure Skating Club. The club was pleased that both Rick and Anna were able to be pre- sent at the presentation, and happy to welcome back Mr. and Mrs. Johnston, Mrs. Porter, Mrs. Stephens and Mr. and Mrs. Forder. Presenting the pictures, Howard Hall commented that he hoped they would provide an inspiration to pre- sent and future club members. Cer- tainly the club is proud of these four skaters, and grateful to Mr. Hall for his beautiful gift, which will enhance the lobby of the arena for years to come. Goreski's take the league title The season finally drew to a close this past weekend in a high scoring overtime affair as the final series went to Goreski"s Insulation two straight with a 7-6 win over Utica Farm Equipment. They had won game one two weeks ago by a 5-1 score. In the final, Utica struck first on an unassisted effort by Chester Down for a short-lived lead as Goreski's tied it up 30 seconds later on a goal by Bruce Woodrow assisted by Tom Powell. By the end of the first Dave Dickson from Ran- dy Sullivan had made it 2-1 for Goreski's. The second frame saw a constant stream of goals as Utica started it off tying the score at two as Ken Fraser set up Jack Lewis. Goreski"s WHITBY-0SHAWA HONDA 1110 Dundas St. East - Whithy, Ont.
