VIA adds coach to end crowding Via Rail has added a second coach to its Havelock-Toronto daily com- muter train which makes four stops in Durham Region, says the com- pany's manager of regional affairs. But the move may come too late for some disgruntled passengers. Via official Paul Raynor said there will be an 80 and 65-seat car on the train which stops in Myrtle, Dagmar, Claremont and Burketon. Raynor says that by adding the second car, Via hopes to avoid situa- tions in which up to 60 people have had to stand on the train from Myr- tle to Union Station. The Conservative government has agreed to operate the train service for two years to see if it can receive at least 40 per cent of the costs. Raynor says that Via has had trouble getting equipment and so there has been only one coach on many occasions. "There will be two coaches Mon- day to Friday, except if there are shortages," says Raynor.
