On hand to show her how maple syrup was made years ago was Michelle Richardson, a CLOCA Naturalist at Purple Woods. it was a brand new experience for one-year old Matthew when his mother Nancy took him to the Purple Woods Conservation area just south of Port Perry. It's time once again for the Con- servation Authority's most popular event: Pancake Weekend at Purpie Woods Conservation Area. The ninth annual program will be held on the weekend of April 5th and 6th. This event is co-sponsored by the Durham A.M. Kiwanis Club. Everyone is invited to come out and participate. Admission, parking and tours of the sugarbush are free. The program will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on both days. Authority staff will lead -teurs of the maple syrup demonstration every half hour, pointing out the Indian, pioneer and modern methods of pro- ducing syrup. Tours will start at the ™ ahs : iy La Fresh sap from maple trees at the Purple Woods Con- conservation area parking lot. Com- munity groups wishing to visit are required to contact the Authority of- fice to make reservations. The Kiwanis will be selling pan- cakes at the picnic shelter. Each order of pancakes will include a ser- ving of fresh maple syrup, produc- ed this spring at the Purple Woods Conservation Area sugarbush. Maple syrup will be available for sale at $9.50 per litre and $5.75 per- half litre. Maple butter will cost $3.25 per 4 oz. jar. Maple syrup will sell for: $4.75 for an 11-piece box, $1.40 for a tray of four leaves and 60 cents for a single leaf.
