Time to pay dues Scugog Island Area News by Mrs. Earl Reader April is Education and Cultural Month for the Women's Institute which will meet April 16 at the Com- munity Hall. It is also time for payments of dues and installation of new officers for the coming year. The program which is chiefly a study of music with the most com- mon instrument, the piano, in mind, will be conducted by Marilyn Fit- chett assisted by Pat Henshaw. We express appreciation to the ladies of the "Head" UCW and various friends who are looking after the Hospital Tuck Shop this week. In spite of the very busy April 3 the "Head" UCW met at the home of Bonnie Gerrow with 12 members present. Although the attendance was not too high, they seemed to ac- complish many things. During roll call members told what they had received in their travelling basket. The project appeared to have been interesting and profitable. Some ar- ticles were turned in for the Art and Craft Sale table. More are requested in May when the meeting will be held at the home of Marylyn Heayn. Flea table items are also a favourite and welcomed. As you will remember the Art and Craft Show is later this year and will be held in June. So you have a little more time to gather up your displays of craft or demonstrations. For the Art room this year, there will be a novel display of your favourite scenic snap shots enlarged. Please name the place in the picture and have your name on it. Contact Helen Red- man for further information. Marylyn Heayn and Bonnie Ger- row are making an afghan for a draw, proceeds of which will go to the Island United Building Fund. The '"Head" UCW gave a donation towards new drapes for the Com- munity Hall. They will also give Craft items to the Hospital Spring Fair. Marylyn Heayn gave a good report from the Social Planning council meeting in March and stated that more volunteers are needed for + Community Involvement. This could mean drivers for Meals On Wheels, Community Care drivers or in other areas. There is no reason for anyone to be bored with nothing to do. Alva Thompson had a comic book B.B.Q.
