Everyone enjoyed the delicious meal and fellowship attend, we missed you. Wednesday evening the UCW ladies met in the church basement * for their regular meeting. The devo- tion was given by Beth Pereman, Helen Jewell and Earline Arm- strong. The theme "Spring'"' and Earlene introduced our guest speaker Elizabeth Werder from Emmanuel International who has spent a year in Jamaica working with the Jamaican people her slides showed us that we live in a wonder- ful country. The part of the country that they were stationed all the land . is worked by hand to grow their gardens and any crops. Elizabeth expressed her thanks to the ladies for the care parcels we had sent her while she was there. A short business meeting follow- ed. Ladies remember your baking for the Hospital Spring Fair: on Saturday, April 26th at the Latcham Centre, Meeting closed and lunch was served. Thursday was euchre night again at the hall with eleven tables filled. Congratulations to John and Dian- na Brough who are celebrating their 20th anniversary by going on a week's holiday to Mexico. On Sunday morning several peo- ple from the Prince Albert Church attended the special service in Port Perry. Rev. Alex Rice, a former minister, was the guest speaker. Mrs. Hastings and daughter Gloria Forder, led in the music. This musical team had more than a decade of faithful choral leadership in the church. Sunday May 4th will be Centennial Homecoming Service. Just heard that Fred and Hazel Brooks are grandparents again. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brooks are the pro- ud parents of a son born early Mon- day, April 14th. Nellie Hopkins began the meeting with a happy devotion en- titled 'Songs of Spring' and summ- ed up with the thought that even though we aren't feeling good or we are unhappy, if we sing it will make us feel better. Joan Knight read the 147th Psalm and Chrissie McKinney led in prayer. The study was given by Margaret Davis, who continued with the study of the women of the Bible. She chose Delilah, the wife of Sampson. Margaret also spoke about Sampson's mother, who was a good woman, and Delilah who was a temptress and decieving women. She spoke of the influence that the two women had on Sampson and the people. A happy birthday was sung to a very special person on a very special birthday. The hostess serv- ed a lovely lunch and a happy time was spent in a friendly circle. Eight tables of euchre were en- joyed at the Community Centre last Thursday evening. Mary Housego and Annie Ross won the ladies prize. The mens prizes were won by George Harper and Joan Fleming. Joy Bright had the most lone hands; Bill Gardner won the door prize; and Verna Draper won the 50/50 draw. The next euchre will be April 24. This will be the last of the regular euchres, but there will be a eurchre the last Thursday of every month May 29th; June 26, July 31 and Aug. 28. Barbara Porter and daughter Sharmon attended a lovely shower in Bowmanville recently in honour of the bride-to-be, Marie Millson of Doug and Florence Ashten, Ruth Purdy and Rev. Stuart McEntyre attended the graduation of Arnold Ashton last Tuesday, which was held at the Atmospheric En- vironmental Services Building in Downsview. Arnold received his diploma for Meteorology and has been accepted for a position in weather forecasting in Winnipeg, commencing April 25. We all wish Arnold the very best in his venture chosen field. Don't forget Saturday, May 10 is the Brooklin Horticultural Society plant Auction. This is a good oppor- tunity to contribute some plants and to go and buy some for spring plan- ting. It will be held in Grass Park, Brooklin. There will be an Annual Meeting for the Community Centre held on April 28 at 8 p.m. This is an impor- tant meeting. Come and support your Community Centre. Lunch will be served. There are some interesting bus trips coming up that we wish to be able to enjoy. You may enquire at the General Store 655-3401. There will be more news of this next week. Next Sunday is Commemoration Day at Burns Church. It was 18 years of ago on April 21 that the new church was dedicated. About 400 people attended the service, and the Lindsay Presbytery did the Honours. Rev. Wm. Black was minister at that time, Rev. Ken Heron was the guest speaker and Miss Fern Stephen was the guest organist. Many people worked hard and long and will not forget that great day. In the evening next Sunday 'The 'Torchmen" will present a service of Gospel Music at 7:30 p.m. The Tor- chmen are six Gospel musicians from St. Catherines and are well known radio and recording artists. They present a wide variety of Gospel music, accompanied by ban- jo, bass guitar, guitar accordian, bag pipes and piano. Everyone is welcome and a social time will be held after the service. Don't forget to circle April 29 on your calendar for the Kirk Guild Microwave demonstration. Tickets may be obtained at the General Store.
