She went on to in- dicate that this plan may possibly be amended to include two additional classes, and therefore, two less portables. Association members, while pleased with the prospect of a new school in Port Perry, expressed strong concerns with the construc- tion of a facility that is inadequate for the current number of students. Durham Board of Education projec- tions show that in 1987 (the propos- ed first operating year for the new school) a total of 14 portable classrooms will still be necessary at R.H. Cornish (9), Prince Albert School (1), and the new school (4). It was felt that this high number of portable classrooms, while perhaps less expensive in the short term, is an inadequate solution to the high number of students as it places éx- tremely high demands on existing lunchroom, washroom, library and physical education facilities. The Chairperson of the P.T.A,, Art Mathews, stated "as a taxpayer, I strongly resent the fact that my tax dollar is being used to fund a facility that is obsolete at the time of construction. I would much rather see the additional dollars put into the facility in order to make it ade- quate for at least the present needs of the community." P.T.A. members went on to in- dicate a desire to pursue this issue further, with the Durham Board of Education. When asked to support the parents in this effort, Trustee Tredway indicated her willingness to do so as a representative of the parents of Port Perry. a Marlin ww Travel Checko from t Britain found trip Toronto departures April 1-30/86.
