Storyteller Marylyn Peringer of Toronto visited Prince Albert Public School last Wednesday April 16th and mesmerized students with her entertaining tales. Above, she talks to a small group of admirers after the program, including Roy Hopkins, Troy Parkes, Joy Carnochan and Cheri Bishop. Adventure in Region bilingualism planned In July, an adventure in bil- ingualism will take place for students between the ages of 13 and 18 (inclusive). A twinning of students takes place between the | Durham Region and Sherbrooke, P.Q., and the "twins" live in each other's home for two weeks in each centre. These are divided into two groups: A (13 & 14 years) and B (15 to 18 years). The Bilingual Exchange is organized by the Durham Board of Education and SEVEC (Society for Educational Visits and Exchanges in Canada), located in Ottawa. This is the seventh year that the program is being offered in this area. Activities are organized through the week days and the weekends are spent with the families. The students will be spending two weeks in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and two weeks in the Durham students will leave on July 2nd for Sherbrooke and return on July 16th. The visiting students will arrive on July 17th and depart on July 30th. This year SEVEC celebrates its 50th year of operation. In honor of this, there will be a birthday celebration in Ottawa, July 15-17th, for all SEVEC participants. The activities are linguistically oriented and include a variety of in- terests such as sports, outdoor hob- bies, shopping, etc. The anglophone and francophone students practice their 2nd language and benefit from each other's culture at the same time. The cost for a student's participa- tion is $160.00; this includes transportation costs as well as all costs for activities but does not in- clude pocket money. A total of 44 students will be accepted this sum- mer and a teaching team of 4 will be responsible for the program. If you are interested in enrolling your child in this program, please contact Mlle Sergnese at Sir John A. Macdonald P.S. (839-1159). The deadline for applications is May 2nd, 1986.
