He said adjourning the hearing until after the court case will delay the matter. Mr. Fowler told the panel that any further delays will cause hardship and additional costs to the developers. In giving his reasons for adjourn- ment of the hearing, the OMB panel members stated that while the Board does have the authority to hear the evidence and reserve judgement, the hearing * would be THE SAVINGS HAVE NEVER BEEN BETTER! Those by-laws re-zone the land from to shoreline residential. The lots in question are on the east side of the Stephenson's Point Road opponents say that because the lots do not touch the actual shore of Lake Scugog, the by-laws do not residential decide if they are right. This development has been the subject of bitter arguments since it first came in front of Township well over a year ago. Scugog Mayor Jerry Taylor is a financial partner in the develop- ment and his involvement became an issue in the municipal elections last November. The Mayor declared his interest in the development when it came in front of council, has taken no part in any council discussions or votes on the matter. One of the opponents in the OMB case and the Supreme Court action is Brad Heintzman who ran unsuc- cessfully for the Ward 3 (Scugog Island) seat on Township council last November. If the Supreme Court rule in favour of the Township by-law, (and any appeal is also turned down) a new OMB hearing will be scheduled. Number taking shots now at 118 The number of people in Port Perry taking the anti-rabies vaccine has climbed to 118 as of Monday morning, according to Chief Inspec- tor Harold Robinson of the Durham Region Health Unit. Five more requests for the serum were received by the Health Unit Monday morning, but Mr. Robinson believes the number of requests will now level off. This is the highest number of peo- ple taking the vaccine from a single incident in Durham Region, and could well be the most from a single incident in the province. Mr. Robinson said that during all of 1985, the Health Unit in Durham had requests for 225 anti-rabies serums. As reported in the Port Perry Star last week, the rabies scare in this CANOE the NONQUON SATURDAY, JUNE 7th, 1986 community was the result of a very friendly and docile stray dog which was on the loose the last week in March and first couple of days in April. Because the dog was 80 friendly, he was in indirect contact with numerous people. The dog was "put down' April 4 and a positive rabies diagnosis was made April 7 after brain tissue was examined at a federal government laboratory in Ottawa. Health officials say the dog had what is known as "dumb rabies," showing no signs of aggressive or ferocious behavior. Officials believe that nobody was bitten by the dog. It was described as s x months old, with silky black hair and grey markings around the ears, about 22 inches high with two scra n__ the side of its nose.
