6 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 22, 1986 Scouting Corner 75 boys repre enting 10 out of 11 packs took part in the District Bike Rodeo Saturday, April 19 at Prince Albert School. The weather certainly cooperated for a change, and every one had a good time. The Junior winner was Danny Gallo from Cannington, and the Senior winner was Philip McLeod of Sunderland. On Sunday April 20th a Beaver leader Sharing session was held at the Port Perry Scout Hall. There were about 10 leaders in atten- dance, and all went back to their own colonies with plenty of new program ideas. Thirteen boys and their families travelled up to Barrie on the 20th to represent Pine Ridge District at the Lakeland Regional Kub Kar Rally. The District Venturer Square Table held an R. and R. camp this last weekend near Haliburton. Eleven venturers and four advisors attended, and took part in canoeing, hiking, and all round fun. This Saturday, April 26th, is the Annual Lakeland Regional Con- ference in Orilla. Nine scouters from Pine Ridge have registered to attend, but there is still room for more! If you are interested, call Greg Smith as soon as possible. Trees for Canada plantings will be held by five groups on or earound May 3rd. 6000 evergreen trees will be planted from Blackstock to Uxbridge by the boys, for conservation and fund raising, so sup- port the boys when they come to your door for pledges. The District Beaveree will be held at the Nestleton Community Hall, hosted by the Cartwright colonies, on Saturday May 10th. We hope all colonies will attend this day of fun and sharing, a marvellous finish to the Beavering year. The cubs will be holding their year end event, the Cuboree, in Sunderland on May 31st. The theme for this year is Expo 86, and the day promises lots of fun for all. The Annual District meeting will take place on Thursday, May 15th at 8:00 p.m. at the Port Perry Scout Hall. All le~ders and Group Committee representatives are urged to attend this important meeting. Uxbridge groups are busy and have events to share. The Beavers have been bowling, "A" pack cubs have been making wooden crafts while the "B" pack are making go-carts to enter in Spring Water Days, and the Scouts are planning a trip in May to visit Troop 67 in Uxbridge's twin city - Catawissa, Pennsylvania. The Group held their annual banquet on April 24th, with about 200 in attendance. The Beavers of the Year were Jon-Ryan Corrigan and Tim Hutchison, Cubs of the Year were Vincent Shanks and Robert Saunders, and Scout of the Year was Ian Cobham. Uxbridge will be participating in Trees for Canada on May 3rd, as well as having a bottle drive and a weiner roast. country Lane REALTY LIMITED Hwy 7A & High Street, Port Perry, Ontario kK RU 7 4 \ | Vay, Cas "It is not the lofty sails, 'but the unseen wind that moves the ship'. ) -- - Le a i EE OSHAWA HOME SHOW seen. 00% on VERTICALS - VENETIANS - ROLLER & PLEATER SHADES - Come see us for these and other specials at the OSHAWA HOME SHOW OSHAWA ARENA - APRIL 24th to 27th Or call now for FREE Shop-at-Home Service. You would be required to pass out applications and signs to the people of Port Perry, Blackstock and Prince Albert. This is a very rewarding job. You meet interesting people and it is an excellent way to get to know the area that you live in. The chairper- sons term is two years, at the end of which, it is passed on to someone else. If you have a love for, and wish to take an active part in the well be- ing of our youth, please consider this position. The rewards of this volunteer commitment are in knowing that you may help save a child from danger, and that our community is a safer and better place to raise our families. Please call Anita Newman or Peggy Bredin. Sincerely, Peggy Bredin (chairperson) Block Parents, Scugog Rainbow of Savings 2nd ANNIVERSARY (Sale Ends May 3, 1986) CUSTOM MADE this Friday and will continue until May 6th.
