Mr. Beat- ty has worked with Native com- munities all over Ontario on many different projects. Since his retirement from Abitibi- Price several years ago, Mr. Beat- ty has made use of his experience and knowledge, helping Tribal Councils organize their books and records, plan and administer local projects. A resident of Lindsay, Mr. Beat- ty is held in high regard by his peers and those with whom he comes in contact. This meeting is our annual Unit Rally and there will be a Social time following the program and an oppor- tunity to meet the newer members of our fellowship. All women in the congregation are invited. If you would enjoy a week-end away from the usual routine of home, Camp Quin-Mo-Lac may be the answer. Obituary Albert Cooper A member of Independent Order of Oddfellows (Beethoven Lodge No. 165 for 57 years, Kinoven Rebekah Lodge No.353) also a member of Pinedale United Church. Albert Cooper died Monday, March 24, 19868 at the Port Perry Community Hospital. He was born. November 22, 1802 in Russell Coun- ty and moved to Brooklin in 1919. Mr. Cooper farmed in the Brooklin area until 1965, then moved to R.R. No.4, Sunderland and retired in 1975. He was married to the former Norrine Wilson of Mt. Zion on September 21, 1940. He is survived by his wife, Norrine, children, Gloria Jean Frewin of Lindsay, Heather Anne and her husband, Ken Bray of Brooklin and Gary and his wife Molly Cooper of Woodville. Loved grandfather of Wayne and Doug Bray, Christine and Dennis Frewin, Kathy, Kelly, Kimmy and "William Cooper and predeceased by Lori-Anne Cooper. Brother of (Jim) Fenimore Cooper of Huntsville predeceased by four brothers and two sisters. Mr. Coopoer was well known for his involvement in the Ayrshire Breeders Association and was an avid showman for many years. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, many of whom called him dad and grandpa. Mr. Cooper was at the Wagg- McDermott-Panabaker Funeral Home, Port Perry. I would like to continue my discussion of recent government grants which have been awarded to several areas within the riding of Durham York. Previously, I mentioned funding of libraries and grants to the Chippewas of Georgina Island. I will discuss the funding of community halls, museums, and well improvements in this newscolumn. : The Ministry of Tourism and Recreation continues to support im- provements to community halls. Scugog Township has received $16,500 to assist with improvements to the Blackstock Arena and Recreation Centre. Most recently, Georgina Township was granted $4,947 for improvements to the virginia Community Hall. The Township of Brock received $7,290 for a Municipal recreation grant. The residents of Claremont will be pleased that the Ministry of the En- vironment in co-operation with the Town of Pickering has funded the well improvements project for a total of $1,546,000 with $200,000 pro- vided for the full cost of an engineer- ing report on the project. The Ministry of Citizenship and Culture has continued its support of local history. Last summer, Scugog Shores Museum received $4,557 for 100 per cent funding for the Youth Employment Project. The Picker- ing Village Museum received $12,714 for an operating grant. - Although it often involves strong lobbying of the various ministries, it is rewarding to see grants given to such important projects.
