The Accommodation Committee was pleased at the com- promise worked out with Board staff, that enabled Epsom's original boundary areas to become official for new students, but not disrupt families within the area currently attending other schools. The committee feels that a private meeting held with Board Chairman Ruth Lafarga and Board Director Bruce Mather was in- strumental in producing the deci- sion, which satisfies all the parties involved. "We found the Board leadership most receptive and understanding of the dilemma" Wilson says. 'We had enough time to explain the en- tire situation and we are confident _--ox® these leaders (which are different than those involved when the Board was trying to close the school before) really do take an interest in the Epsom School and the type of education provided." The committee had to work much harder and longer than they ever ex- pected yet feel satisfied, that the result is a strong display of the way the democratic process should work. 'Its hard for busy politicians to keep track of all the issues in a given constituency' Simmonds remarked, 'but its gratifying when the democratic process unfolds to see a decision which serves the in- terests of all parties involved.
