During their stay in Canada, this couple were able to learn more about Canadian farming at a dinner party with local agricultural engineers, Jim and Barb Byers and Harvey and Joan Graham. Over the weekend was the official opening of the M-R Art Gallery in Bethany which many local residents attended. Congratulations to Miss Kathy Morton on her part on open- ing this delighful art gallery in the Morton honiestead just- outside Bethany. ... Several from here attended the Dedication Service at the Scugog Shores Museum on Sunday when two trees were planted in memory of Barbara Phair & Lillian Smith. It was a meaningful service for all who attended. On Tuesday, May 13, seventeen members of the afternoon unit of the U.C.W. met at the home of Flora Samells. A dessert of ice cream and" cake was served, then Jean Adams opened the meeting with a poem ex- pressing how imagination can lift us out of ourselves and our broken "dreams. Devotional was given by Lisa Kristensen. Scripture taken from John 10 - 4. Sheen know their master's voice and follow. So it should be with us. Hymn, "Take Time to be Holy' was sung. Follow- ing the business discussion, Audrey Wright went on with the program, taking as her topic "visiting" A lit- tle skit was presented by Jean Adams and Jean Ferguson showing what not to do or say when visiting a patient. The general U.C.W. meeting will be on May 21 at 8 p.m. with Wendell White as guest speaker telling of his experience in the Arctic. Morning Unit of U.C.W. Unit leader Lois Luke welcomed ten members and three visitors to the meeting at Ruby VanCamp's. Margaret Mountjoy read an Indian poem entitled ' 'The Song" Alma Duff gave an excellent worship on mothers and families. She ended 'with this thought, '"We give our children what we never had but we forget to give them what we had." On June 1 we are hosting "The Vic- tor", a musical group from Cann- ington. Tickets were distributed to sell. Our unit is arranging a tour to Curve Lake and other interesting points in June. Report by Helen Bradburn Our W.I. met in the Town Hall on Wednesday, May 7 when we had an open meeting at 8 p.m. Shirley Turner, a retired Blackstock teacher showed slides she and Roy took on their 65 day tour to New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and Tahiti. The slides were great and the com- mentary informative. In New Zealand a sheep can be sheared in 42 seconds. Gum trees shed their bark every year. Seeing coral from a submarine and imagine a rain forest in Tasmania. Karen Doyle Senior Citizens meeting by E. Irvine The Senior Citizens held their regular meeting on Wed. May 14. A very good crowd in attendance, opened by the President, we had one new member. The meeting was followed by the singing of O'Canada, after which was followed by two minutes silence in memory of three of our members who recently pass- ed away. At the close of the meeting Marion King gave a reading on 'My Mother" which was very good. Out next meeting is May 28th and a pot luck supper. There will be a euchre next Wed. 21st at 1:30 p.m. at the Latcham Centre - come out and join us. Anyone who would like to play lawn bowling in the Senior Citizens tournament get in touch with Jim Martin. The rest of the afternoon was spent in playing euchre, bridge and cribbage and enjoying tea, coffee and cookies served by the ladies of the May lunch group. Four members from our W.I. went and came home with enthusiasm in the thought that the W.I. is prospering. A week ago the Sheep Show was held here in Blackstock and this past weekend the Rabbit Show was here. No details of either event have been submitted.
