18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 27, 1986 Snoring husbands story enjoyed Nestleton-Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Nestleton Afternoon U.C.W. Unit Meets The setting for the May meeting was the lovely, new home of Leona Sadler. Unit Leader Jean Williams extended a warm welcome to eleven members and two guests, followed by a Mother's Day poem. The team - of Bernice Mairs and Doris Rohrer presented a fine devotional entitled "Worship." They read portions of beloved Psalms interspersed by an interesting commentary. Bernice read the Japanese version of the 23rd Psalm. She also read a humorous article re "Snoring Husbands" which was enjoyed. Two hymns were sung...closing with prayer. Minutes were adopted as read by Secretary Leona Sadler. Treasurer Neta Fish reported on the money raising projects held recent- ly...which were successful ventures. A letter was read during cor- respondence re entertainment for the Port Perry Community Nursing Home and members decided to plan for October re this event. A card was signed for Mrs. George (Ella) Bowers who is a patient in Port Perry Hospital. We trust for better health soon. Bernice Mairs was ap- - pointed flower convenor for the church. A discussion was held re two weddings the U.C.W. are cater- ing for...one in June...the other in August. An appeal was received from the Toronto Christian Resource Centre re St. Christopher Camp which is supported by The Ministry of Social Services and The United Church of Canada. They will have six camps of seven and ten days duration serving the needs of single persons, mostly roomers, hostel dwellers and pensioners. Many items are needed to make it a success. A partial list as follows: food - including meat, canned goods, vegetables, fruit, baked goods, etc. games- indoor and outdoor miscellaneous - outdoor equipment such as furniture, lawn chairs, tents, tools, picnic tables, etc. If you can help with any of these items it would be appreciated. After closing with Benediction...a delicious lunch was enjoyed, served by Doris, Ber- nice and hostess Leona. M. Cawker expressed the thank you. Women's Institutes Meet For Annual Meeting The annual meeting for the District of Ontario South was held on Tuesday, May 20 in Stouffville United Church with a fine atten- dance from the nine Branches plus many invited guests from the other Districts within sub-division no. 8. Eight were present from the local Branch...Honeydale. Mrs. Clarence (Alva) Thompson of Port Perry, District President, assisted by Mrs. Jim (Hazel) Coates, District Secretary of Shirley, conducted the day long meeting. Mrs. Harold (Louella) Lewis of Mount Albert, Provincial Board Director, brought Ge ri Hea wr id Centre ¢f Port Perry Dr E Mueller's Office - 24 Water St S| Plaza, Port Perry, Ontario LOB INO to the meeting a concise, detailed report of much interest to all. At the noon hour...the meal was delightful...a very satisfying lun- cheon served buffet style by the Altona Branch. Some 75 were in at- tendance sitting around the laden tables...all friends - creating a warm atmosphere...enjoying one another's company to the utmost while partaking of the delicious food. What a lovely meal! It was a pleasure to have the Cen- tral Ontario Area (Toronto) Presi- dent Mrs. Marion Wiseman of Bowmanville present, to install the incoming officers. : Caesarea Euchre At the Wed. evening card party many new faces are seen...a good attendance for these popular card parties. This past week congratula- tions are extended to the following: First prize winner - Anne Harran with 85, Second prize winner - Pearl Day with 79, Third prize - Evva Davidge - 46. Refreshments were served by Madeline Arnott and Jean Kravetts. A friendly night out next Wed. evening at the Caesarea Cen- tre - 8:00 p.m. Visiting and Such Very delighted to have Art and Carroll Cawker of Sudbury "down on the old farm' for a brief stay...just overnight with Sam and Mabel. During the time they were here we stepped high...called on good friends, Dave and Helen Thompson of Port Perry, Uncle Jim and Auntie Marion Cawker of Man- chester - had dinner in town...and then on to Alan and Eleanor Cawker's in Oshawa to catch a glimpse of their new home which is in the process of being built. Next day, Chas and Nell Cawker of Scar- borough were luncheon guests at the farm and enjoyed a visit with Art and Carroll before they left to visit their family in Waterloo for a day or S0. During the week Mrs. Neta Fish was an overnight guest with son Calvin & Yvonne Holland and fami- ly, Bowmanville and Tuesday she "visited with daughter Audrey & hus- band Jim Leishman and family of Reaboro and stayed overnight. Norm & Bernice Mairs, Nestleton, enjoyed having grandchildren Jeremy Jay and Julie Slute of R.R. no. 1, Oshawa for the weekend. Their mother Diane Slute was a sup- per guest and the youngsters return- ed home. Nestleton United Church An average congregation at Nestleton United on Sunday, May 25, with Henry and Effa Stainton ex- tending a warm welcome at the door. Rev. Dale Davis presented an interesting story for the S. School...and his message, "The Choice Is Yours" was meaningful to the congregation, with many ex- cellent tips for living. Sympathy Extended We were saddened to learn of the death of a good friend Mrs. Paul (Minnie) Diamond of Green- bank...of recent years a resident of the Port Perry Community N ursing Home. Minnie had a heavy cross to bear for many years due to a crip- pling motor accident...but she was bright and cheerful despite her con- stant suffering and handicap. She The cast of BOOZE, The Play dazzled a Town Hall 1873 audience Friday night with its humour and its message about drunk driving. The play has toured successfully all over the Region but plays its last gig this Friday in Oshawa.
