24 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 10, 1986 Gamblers on top at Mt. Albert tourn past weekend saw the Green- bank Ri seek compete in the an- nual Mount Albert Sports Day Fastball Tournament and come home with the championship trophy. All the games were extremely close and the Gamblers won the championship on the basis of ex- cellent pitching and defense. The first game of the tournament saw Greenbank edge past the Mount Albert All Stars by a 2-1 score. Saturday night before the packed stands, the Gamblers and Russ Kor- bak took on the Toronto Metro Mer- chants and pitcher Harry Passmore. This game turned into a real pitchers duel as neither team could score a run and after playing two extra innings the tournament of- ficials declared Greenbank the win- ners of the game on the basis of hav- ing had more base runners. On Sunday afternoon the Gamblers met for the championship game with Bradford - Russ Korbak again took the mound for the Gamblers with Doug Cook pitching for Bradford. : The Gamblers struck early in this game as they scored the games on- ly run in the first inning. George Redshaw led off the game with a double and moved to third after a long fly ball by Hugh Johnston, and scored on an infield out by Trevor Till. Then the Greenbank defense and Russ Korbak took over and shut the Bradford team down. The rest of the way. During the championship presen- tation to the Gamblers, two in- dividual awards went to Greenbank players. Russ Korbak was voted top pitcher in the tournament and Trevor Till was voted best offensive player. While the Gamblers fared well in Mount Albert on the weekend they dropped two league games during the week as they lost 6-5 to Whitby ~ and 5-1 to Port Perry Legion. Still perfect The Dennis Anderson Chev Olds Ladies Lob Ball team remains undefeated after downing Brooklin ° by a score of 20 to 6. Eve Johnston playing rover for D.A.C.O. was super in the field and at bat making her look like she had been playing baseball all season, however, this was her first game of the year. D.A.C.0. next meets the Jolly Roger team Friday night in Port Perry where they will be doing their best to retain their perfect season. Poe Wees dumped The Scugog Pee Wee Boys Soccer team played against Newcastle on Tuesday night, and came away defeated 3-1. The play was in Newcastle's end for most of the first half, but after many good attempts at scoring, only Jamie Brown could put one in the net for Scugog. The goal was set up by a perfect pass from hardworking - Jason Reetham Clayton. In the Port Perry game the Legion broke open a scoreless game with 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Gamblers play their next three games at Greenbank Park as they meet Whitby Legionnaires on Monday, Oshawa A.C.L. are the visitors on Friday night (June 13) and Oshawa Juniors come to Green- bank on Monday, June 16. All Green- the 5-1 victory. bank home games start at 8:00 p.m. For the first time ever, two local teams met in the finals of the Gators Lob Ball tournament. Seagrave Country Lane Realty had everything working right to easily dump Sportsland for the $450 first prize money. At left is Seagrave MVP Bill Lehman with Jim Grosvenor, representing the Gators, and Sportsland MVP Dale Crawford. In the consolation final, Arby's of Oshawa nipped Ray's Smoke Shop of Oshawa 10-9.
