Rl dl Scott Branton (left) Diane Varty and Chris Solar have achieved outstanding results on an International Chemistry Examination sponsored by the University of Waterloo. The three are grade 13 chemistry students at PPHS. A total .of 5763 students from more than 500 high schools in Canada wrote the exam, and recogni- tion is given to those students who finish in the top five per cent. Chris finished in the top four per cent, Diane in the top two per cent, and Scott in the top one per cent. In fact he receiv- ed special recognition for finishing 16th out of the more than 5700 students who wrote the ex- am. Congratulations to all three are in order. In the afternoon beginning at 1:30 there will be a Bake Sale at the Ashburn General Store and in the evening an old fashioned Strawberry Social will take place at 6:30 a. Burns Church. There will be a program at 8 p.m. including a celebrity cake competition and break the piggy bank ceremony. A wide selection of valuable prizes will Graduate Duivesteyn, daughter of Anthony & Margaret Karen Joyce Duivesteyn,, of Blackstock, graduated from Trent University, Peterborough, with a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Psychology. All business sessions were con- ducted by Provincial President Lenore Graham of Blenheim, Ontario. The conducted walking tour of Wellington Street and Sparks Street, the MacKenzie King Estate Tour in the Gatineau Park, and the National Capital Tour were enjoyed by in- terested members on Saturday afternoon. Joan Finnigan, the Guest Speaker and gifted story-teller, colourfully told, with accent and 'idiom, saga and legends of the Ottawa Valley at the Saturday night banquet. There, too, the performance of the An- nabarrach Highland Dancers was fantastic, and that of the Nepean Singers was sheer delight. Delegates and visitors from this area were Mrs. Shirley Turner, Blackstock and Mrs. Grace Hastings, Port Perry. and many pigs. be available to those in attendance and the celebrity cake entries will be auctioned off. Their daughter, Laura, won first prize in the 9-12 month baby show at the Brooklin Spring Fair. Mr. Wm Gardner is visiting with Mr. Don Gardner and other relatives in Verdun, Manitoba. Barbara, Ray & Glen Porter at- tended the piano recital which their daughter, Sharmon, played in at Fairview Lodge last Thursday even- ing. Crystal and Terry Annis were also participants in the recital and were all pupils of Jean Stackow of Myrtle. Visiting with the Humphrey fami- ly on Sunday were Barbara, Chris & Gordon Humphrey and Mary Ellen Solomon. The Ashburn group of the W.M.S. met last Wednesday evening at the home of Bernice Gardner. Rose Heron, president conducted the meeting and gave the opening devo- tions with Chrissie McKinney reading the scripture and Lois Daw led in prayer. The study for the evening was taken be Nellie Hopkins who follow- ed on with the study book. "Understanding the Native Peo- ple." She also told of her trip to Curve Lake, Whetung Craft Centre, where she saw beautiful work done by the Indians and shared with us some of the things she learned. A lovely lunch was served by the hostess and a social time enjoyed. Lois Daw spent a few days last week with her sister-in-law at their home at Huntsville. Ted and Rose Heron enjoyed a trip to Elora last week to visit Reg and Jessie Doubt and also visited Jean Vicers at Fergus. We welcome Eric Paquet of Mon- treal to our community. He will be living with Catherine & Ernie Hum- phrey and family for three months. Arnold Ashton of Winnipeg spent a weeks holiday with his parents Doug & Florence Ashton & brother Ron. Congratulations to Beth Jacobson of Dagmar Road, Ashburn who became the Queen of Brooklin Fair. Quite a number from the area at- tended the fair. Visiting with the Ashton family on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Vicers of Fergus and Mrs. Ruth Purdy of Mono Centre. Rev. McEntyre was back to con- duct Sunday service last Sunday morning. He took his text from Cor- inithians, Chapter 12 and the theme of his message was "Rainbow Religion." The scriptures were read by Nellie Hopkins and Lindsay Death & the choir sang "It is Well With My Soul."
