The week of the 9th to the 13th, we took it slow and easy so that we would be well rested for the week ahead of us. We held a bowling match on the Monday with Becky Gray as the top scorer with 27 points. Congratulations Becky! On the Tuesday we did some shopping right here in the Nursing Home. We had the Easy Living Clothes Com- Graduation Donna Kerry, daughter of Walter and Elva Kerry, R.R. 1, Port Perry, graduated June 6th, 1986 from the University of Guelph with an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Family Studies. A travelling company like this is well appreciated especially to those residents that are not able to gét out of the home to do any shopping. The afternoon of the 11th, 23 residents spent the time holding their Residents Council Meeting for June. Some of the suggestions that were discussed were plans for trips over the summer months. They would like to go to Cullen Gardens, the Canadian National Exhibition, and on a boat ride. They would also like to raise money for themselves so that they can go to Niagara Falls for a 2-day holiday. It was also brought to their attention that we need a new flag for outside and some of the residents would like an umbrella table and chairs for outside. Throughout the day on Thursday everyone took it easy and sat around working on different crafts while sipping on a good cup of tea. The Friday (13th) the ladies got together and baked some peanut butter cookies while the men participated in the men's bowling league. As of Sunday, June 15th everyone was busy taking part in Nursing Home Week. We started off with a special breakfast being held in honour of Father's Day. The menu consisted of pancakes, sausages, bacon, eggs, juice and muffins. Many thanks to Harvey and Peggy Easton, Claire Whitter, Margaret Edwards and Vera Crosier for volunteering their time to help us. They then enjoyed watching a few movies. Open House was held on the Monday. We had a low attendance for the building tours but things picked up during the Strawberry Social. We received several posters from students from R.H. Cornish on behalf of the Poster Contest for Nur- sing Home Week. The judges had an extremely hard time choosing the winners. Tuesday the 17th, we held Fami- ly Day. Everyone had a very fun day. In the afternoon we held our version of '"The Gong Show." Thank you to the judges --- Kent Farndale, Charlene Oram, and Vera Crosier. Clair Whitter received a trophy for "The Overall Best."" We would also like to give honourable mentions to Lionel Blaikie, Margaret Edwards, Hugh Santer, Betty Fellows, George -Manderson, Joan Tuck, Eunice, Gretal, Barb and Wendy. We hope the families took the opportunity to get to know our staff at the wine & ° cheese reception. We hope it was very informative for the families. Fundraising Day was held on Wednesday. We were busy raising money for Alzheimers Disease. The results of the day were: Draw Win- ner - Mr. Howsam (Villa) Bowling - (high score) L. Blaikie (89), (Most Money Raised) A. Hyland ($123.69), (Villa High Score) R. Kane (81), (Ville Most Money Raised) E. Lard- ner ($55.80). Rock-a-Thon - Most Money Raised - J. Tuck ($50.00), Best Rocker - M. Gould, Jelly Bean Drive - J. Tuck, Jackpot Winner - H. Sanderson (Bingo). On Thursday (19th), we held a Volunteer Appreciation Tea. We honoured our volunteers that come to help us in any way they can. There is nothing more valuable to us than our volunteers. We also held our crowning of the King & Queen for Nursing Home Week. Con- gratulations to Margaret Edwards and Art Hyland. Friday was declared Fun & Games Day. Everyone participated in a variety of games that was held outside. With the weather being so nice we also held a barbecue. Birthday wishes are extended to Leonard Allen (June 23) and Effie Ploughman (28th). On behalf of the residents we would like to thank the family of the late Mary Stiver for the beautiful organ that they donated to the Nur- fuel economy tool.
