Imagination is needed to make auction a success Scugog Island Area News by Mrs. Earl Reader Next Saturday morning will be a big day for the Women's Institute when they will travel around the Island hoping to find something at your driveway by 10 a.m. as dona- tions in the line of toys, dishes, books, tools, garden produce, small furniture (moveable & useful). Perhaps the garden produce would be better for the next weekend. You may think of other items no longer useful to you but would mean much to someone else. Just use your im- agination & help make it interesting. As you may know, these women work hard & have had 12 previous successful auctions and the pro- ceeds go for community work. The sale is held Saturday July 5 at the Community Hall on the cor- ner of Con. 10 E. - John Pearce a former resident will auction the sales starting at 11 a.m. Of course there are other attrac- tions too. You may purchase refreshments and meet all your friends. The children love the fish pond. Did you purchase a ticket on the quilt for the draw on Auction day? You may even get yourself or children new clothes at bargain prices. Any questions? The Building Fund at the Island United is still growing. Plans are now being made for Vacation Bible School which begins Aug. 18 at the Island United. There is a very long list of craft needs. Please get a copy at the church. I'm sure you can supply some of the ¢0 items. It sounds as if they will hav a very busy time. Put your items in the box at the church. Cash dona- tions are also acceptable. Elders of the Scugog United please meet Wed. evening at 8:30 p.m. for a short meeting. The highlight of the Scugog Island Women's Institute June meeting was an extremely interesting talk by Elizabeth Luke of her first hand experiences during her six months Kuy stay on a cattle ranch in Australia where she worked as a *"jillaroo"', the Australian equivalent of cowgirl, with a motorbike. (Cowboys are known as '"jackaroos"). While in Australia Elizabeth visited several places of interest, including the island of Tasmania and showed slides of Volunteers "Each" year Scugog Community Care does over 1200 drives, taking senior citizens and others with special needs to doctor's appoint- ments, day hospital, physiotherapy and to do their shopping and other" business. Community Care drivers also deliver over 2400 meals to home- bound residents in Port Perry, Blackstock, Caesarea & Nestleton and on Scugog Island. This year many of our regular helpers have been lured to the ex- citement of Expo "86 in Vancouver. If you would have time to help us out once a week or more often please call or visit our office at 208 North Street, Port Perry. 985-8461. Whether you are recently retired, on long term disability, working at home or are a student, helping peo- ple to remain independent for as long as possible is a great way to get involved as a volunteer. You are asked to help at specific times. If you are not available at that time we simply move on to another person. Community Care drivers receive a gas allowance to help with their expenses. We also have third party liability insurance to protect our drivers from any personal loss in case of an accident. In these cnang- ing times, with lawsuits becoming more common, volunteers need to know that their interests are being considered when they offer to help COLD CUT CENTRE & BAKE SHOP KURZ BRAND BLACK FOREST HAM KURZ BRAND DELI HAM KURZ BRAND BOLOGNA DINNER ROLLS MOCHA CAKE (Small) 3 LOCATIONS FOR YCUR SHOPPING CONVENIENCE 180 Queen St. - Port Perry Phone 985-2818 5 Points Mall - Oshawa Phone 725-3834 118 Brock St. N. - Whitby Phone 668-9931 Tasmania and other places of in- terest in Australia, also pictures of Australian animals and types of cat- tle found to be compatible with the Australian climate, which can be extremely hot. Doctors strike (From page 1) shambles and the trust and respect are gone," he stated. Mr. Stevenson said the Conser- vatives would have called in a mediator to try and resolve the dispute and at the same time con- form with the federal Health Act. He said negotiations with the doc- tors were poorly handled from the start and were typified by the fact that at one meeting with the OMA, Premier David Peterson lost his temper, cursed at doctors and stomped away from the table. While he admits the Conser- vatives would have made changes the Party agreed with the OMA posi- tion that anyone who did not want to be extra billed would not have to pay extra for medical services in Ontario. Mr. Stevenson said that in his five years as an MPP, he received just one complaint from a constituent over extra-billing. 3 locations to choose from $3.99 $3.49 $2.99 $1.59 $3.69 $3.89 $1.49 doz. .89
