fin, rami asiidiiie 20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, July 2 1986 SW " Dr E Mueller's Office 24 Water St S| Has "the Phantom' given up on white rocks and turned his ~ attention to pink flamingos? We're not sure. But Port Perry Star publisher Peter Hvidsten was sure of one thing Saturday morn- ing when he looked out the window of his Perry Street home and saw the front lawn ablaze in a sea of shocking pink (as in flamingo). Some 212 (we stand corrected, 214) of the plastic pink birds had been neatly placed on the lawn some time during the previous evening. Whether there is a connection between flamingos and white rocks placed by "the Phantom' around the commiunity recently, remains to be seen. Peter removed the flamingos later in the day, joking that he would have left them there, but Cutting the grass would have been a bit tricky. ERNIE DUNCAN 986-0055 'Caesarea, Ontario LOB 1EO Native trees discussed Ashburn and Area News by Rose Heron A very interesting and infor- mative meeting of the Brooklin Hor- ticultural Society was held last Wednesday evening in the United" Church halls. Bill Burgess, a local member was the speaker of -the evening. His topic was "Identifica- tion of Native Trees" but it was much more than that, as he used 2 projectors to show the whole tree and a close up branch with cones, seeds or flowers and Bill told us a lot about the nature of some of our most common trees and we all learned a lot about some not so common ones. Afterwards there was a contest - who could identify the tree fron the branch that was placed on a table? Ken Brown easily won that contest. I'm sure after hearing this fine pro- gram we will all appreciate our trees more. There was also a rose and other flower show. The best red rose prize was won by Roxanne Reveler, the . best white rose prize won by Audrey Young. The best novice arrange- ment, won by Roxanne Reveler, the best deocrative by Mary Houcego, the best geranium grown from seed prize, won by Betty Van Buuren. The judge for the flower show was Mr. Charles Davis of Toronto. The next meeting will be Aug. 27 when the speaker will be from the Royal Botanical Gardens and will be about "Lillies," There was a euchre party in the community centre last Thursday evening. The ladies prizés went to Verna Slute and Joy Bright. The mens winners were Art Richardson and Alvin Spenser. Bill Gardner got the most lone hands.
