The event, sanctioned by the Pro Westmount Kiwanis of Oshawa, at- tracted 77 teams of fishermen. Close to 600 bass were caught over the two days, and all but one were "live released" back into Lake " Scugog after being weighed at the scales set up in front of the Latcham Centre. When the final tallies had been completed late Sunday afternoon, the Ottawa team of Wes Laverge and Don Jones took the top prize of $1750 cash, plus'a 9.9 Mariner out- board and $600 worth of rods and reels. They weighed in a total of 16 kg. of bass over the two days, which is slightly over 35 pounds. Second place went to the Burl- ington team of Les Zacny and Ray Newman, who took home $1200 cash for their efforts, along with an Eagle Flasher and other fishing equip- ment. Third place was taken by the team of Calpper and Longmeyre, who hail from Lima, Ohio. The largest bass on day two was caught by Pete Pokoluk and his partner An- dy Clements. It tipped the scales at 2.73 kg. Both teams will pick up $500 cash and Mariner electric motors for the largest fish. The competitors seemed to be end of the lake, close to shore with flipping jigs. Viola's big fish of the tournament came out of a weed bed near shore.
