It's either been stormy or it's been nice out. Mon- day, June 23rd, we had bowling. The 'top scorer was Lionel Blaikie with 112 points. Congratulations Lionel'! Tuesday we loaded up the cars with 15 people and headed out for a day- long shopping trip at the Zeller's stare at Five Points Mall. Several of the residents bought new dresses, blouses, -all-day suckers, etc. They all enjoyed going out for lunch and especially enjoyed the chocolate milkshakes and coconut cream pies. Wednesday (25th) we held our mon- . thly birthday party. We had six peo- ple celebrating their birthday in June. They all enjoyed their birth- day cake and ice-cream and open- ed their gift. Afterwards, everyone joined in and participated in some games. = Thursday, we loaded up the cars and headed out to Mairs for some strawberry picking. After cleaning and hulling the berries, everyone en- joyed strawberries and ice-cream. During the afternoon, the ceramic class was held for all of those who were interested. Friday (27th), the women were busy baking goodies and the men got together for a Mens Gab Session. Their guest speaker was Mr. Harvey Easton. He is a retired policeman who had plenty of stories to tell. Everyone rested over the weekend, and then we got back out picking berries Monday (30th) mor- - ning. The ladies spent the afternoon making fresh strawberry pies for everyone for supper that night. I must say, ladies, that they were delicious. Tuesday, July 1st, we celebrated Canada Day with a barbecue and a fireworks display. Approximately 35 residents from the"Nursing Home, 15 residents from the Villa and other guests en- joyed hot dogs and ice-cream cones. Entertainment was provided by Mr. Groups will be charged The Durham Board of Education recently introduced a new policy regarding free use of school facilities by community groups dur- ing the evening. A year-long study to determine the cost of offering school facilities to the public to use as recreational or meeting places on a "'no-charge" basis found it cost the Board approximately $490,000 in operating costs. Beginning in September, the Board will charge non-profit com- munity groups a small user fee for use of school facilities Monday to Friday. Information .regarding the new fee schedule may be obtained by contacting the Co-ordinator of the Community Use of Schools at the Board Office, 576-4600, ext. 278. Archie Walker. Thank you Archie for playing the guitar and leading us in a happy sing-a-long. We then wat- ched a spectacular firework display done by Al Wackett. To end the evening, we all sang O'Canada. Special thanks to Anne, Chuck, Bet- ty, Jodi, Laurie, Edith, Nancy, MacKenzie, Barb and Al for helping serve everyone. Wednesday, the ladies attended the manicures and peticures session. Thursday, July 3rd, we took it easy and worked on our various crafts. To end the week, we held a BINGO. We had several winners and we extend congratula- tions to them. . Birthday greetings for July are extended to Mrs. Sophia Percy, Ju- ly 10; Mr. Robert Newell- 12th; Mr. Bill Attwobd- 13th; Mr. Bruce Symington- 14th; Freeman- 16th and Miss Phylis Lambert- 19th. .
