Cornish, Durham Region's largest public school, but these students breezed through the year with a lot of hard work and came out on top. Special awards were presented at the school's graduation exer- cises recently at Port Perry High School. JUNIORS On June 30, at Caesarea,' Lishman's defeated Sunnyside Market-Caesarea, 13-6. Shawn - Lewerentz batted in two home runs, with a triple by Scott Goble, and doubles by Jeremy Malcolm and Allan Richmond for Lishman's. Outstanding catch by Jeremy Malcolm on an overthrown ball to home plate. Excellent pitching by Scott Goble with 8 strikeouts, and 3 by Shawn Lewerentz. At the Nestleton Diamond, Swain Seed Sluggers were defeated 19-14 by Turner's Green Giants. For the winning side, home runs were hit by Brian Nash and Adam, with a dou- ble by Brian. Outstanding catch by Kirk. For Swain's, Brad Morton had a great game with 2 homers and 8 R.B.1.'s, and Brad Vokins had one homer. Singles were hit in by Katherine Ellis, Wendy Handyside, Tony Waldriff, Michael Leeming, Jeremy Michel and Derek Leeming. Outstanding catches by Jason Logan and Brad Vokins. On July 3, Lishman"s and Turner's Green Giants met to play a rained out game from June 16th, with Turner's being the winners. Brian and Mike Nash both hit home runs for Turner's. For Lishman's, doubles were scored by J.J. Brun- ner, Allan Richmond and Scott Go- ble. Singles were taken by Jeremy Malcolm, Scott Goble, Kim Stewart, with a great hit by Scott Malcolm. Play of the game was an outstan- ding catch by Matthew Bradburn at shortstop, and the double play then made by Scott Goble. INTERMEDIATE On July 1 at the Blackstock Fairground, Cummings Backhoe were defeated by Brenda's Esso 20-11. For cummings, Donnie Cliff hit in two homers, with one each by Jennifer Vokins and Jeff Vernon. Triples hit in by Robyn Cliff, Jeff Vernon, Josh Wilson and Donnie Cliff, with a double by Kyle Simms. Great out made at home plate by catcher Donnie Cliff, helped by pit- cher Jeff Vernon. Good catch by Robyn Cliff at second base, and good play by Dana Russell at short- stop for an out. For Brenda's, three run homers batted in by Scott Barr and Todd Moore, with a home run by Leanne McDowell. Doubles hit in 'by Jennifer Byers, Paul Bycock and Scott Barr. Outstanding catches by Paul Bycock, Danny Bycock nd . Todd Moore. Cartwright softball report On July 2 at the High School, Port Perry Kinsmen defeated Brenda's Esso 11-9. For Brenda's, Danny Bycock hit in a triple, with a double by Michelle Morton and singles by Scott Barr and Paul Bycock. Great catches by Todd Moore, Stacey Swain, Paul Bycock, Danny Bycock and Darren Leach. Double play by Darren Leach. For the Kinsmen, Barry Ross hit a homer, with super catches by April Moore and Cheryl Brunner. The Blackstock Lioness team had a tough week being defeated in both 'games, previously undefeated. On Monday, June 30 they were defeated at the Blackstock Fairgrounds by Blackstock Domi- nion Hardware. For the Lioness doubles were scored by Chris Bryant, with singles by Chris Beacock, Chris MacLeod, Andy Wilson, Brendon Agnew, Kevin Ellis and Terry Park. 'On Wednesday in Port Perry they were defeated by the Gulf Team, 10-7. Great pitching by Chris ~ MacLeod and Chris Bryant, and a super catch of a line drive by Chris Beacock, Andy Wilson and Craig Rowntree each hit a triple, with doubles by Rob MacEachern and Kevin Ellis. Squirt House League ) June 30 The game between Value Mart & Allen Siding was defaulted to the Valu Mart Team. The teams split up and a fun game was had with trick plays and even a triple out play was made. July 2 Cartwright had their first loss of the season at the hands of Taylor's Petro 10-7. Brendon Agnew had 2 singles and scored 2 runs while Rob. Macheachern had 1 single & double for the Cartwright team. Ricky Olaison had a good glove & pitched well for Taylor's. Jeremy Norton had a hot bat & went 3 for 3 for the - Petro. July 2 : In Seagrave Irwin Smith was vic- torious over Norm Tripp 22-9. Kevin Brown was sharp on shortstop & Steven Slade pitched well for the Tripp team. Andy French had a good game as catcher & hit 4 singles for Smith. Steven Stiles hit 2 home runs also for the Smith team & played well in field. June 23 There was a close game in the A Gift to Pass On ... OLD BLACK & WHITE PHOTOS ARE PRECIOUS TO YOU! Dan Hill had a triple & a double while Chris Beacock had a single & a double for Cartwright. Irwin . Smith's got good hitting & fielding from both Grant Kay & Keven Peirce. June 25 Another close game was played in Port Perry between Norm Tripp & Taylor's Petro. Cliff Lefort had some good bunts & Darren Hope had a line drive home run for the Tripp team. Ricky Tripp also had a line drive home run & Scott Heasman made a game saving catch to bring the Petro team it's 18-17 victory. June 25 Allen Siding scored 18 runs to Seagrave's 15 in Seagrave's home diamond. Kent Taylor made 3 good plays while playing 1st base & Jason Edinger pitched well for the home team. lan McClelland had some ex- cellant hits & Michael Pothier made some good catches for the Siding team.
