John Groeneveld has stocked his truck with every conceivable type of sign and hes hitting the road. See story for details. Signs move on up the highway You've heard of drive-through hamburgers, deals on wheels and - meals on wheels, but have you ever considered an entire showroom-on-- wheels? John Groenveld is betting you haven't but hé's also hoping every businessman in Scugog will have heard of his mobile sign showroom within the next few months. The Scugog Island resident left his job in the manufacturing business and has pegged all his plans on Na- tional Sign and Store Supply, the business he operates entirely on the back of a truck. At first glance, it's a pretty or- dinary looking truck, but once he " unlocks the back door, a whole new world opens up. Inside is every kind of sign im- aginable, large illuminated 'signs, colourful strip banners, medium- sized open and closed signs, and tiny little LOOK and SALE signs. Everything is neatly organized in- to compartments with every spare millimetre used efficiently. From the outside, it's just a truck -- on the inside, it's a real store. "I find when I get people on the truck, their eyes go wide," John says with a chuckle. "Sometimes it's hard to get a person inside, but once he's inside, the customer is sur- prised at how much I have to offer." He has signs for any type of busiress, whether it's a restaurant that needs a new menu board, a lawyer's office that requires an understated memo board, a new store that coula use a big, flashy il- luminated sign, or an established shop that needs eye-catching "Sale!" signs. Whatever the need, John's mobile sign truck can fill it. "Calling it a sign business really fixes a limitation in the mind of a rson. This is a completely new oncept,'"' he points out. "A person may not have an immediate need for anything either, but it will plant something in his mind for when he does have a need. "Many people think of signs in terms of window signs, but I have much more to offer," he says. He even carries regulation signs such as "No Parking" or Speed Reduced" for use on private roads or bigger commercial operations. John has only been in business for a couple of weeks and so far he's been kept busy handing out flyers and trying to explain to people what it is he does. About 50 percent of the people he talks to are curious enough to step into the truck -- the rest usually have good reasons why they can't, and make appointments to see it another time. The great thing about the truck is that is comes to the consumer -- a businessman has no need to waste half a day driving to a sign warehouse, or waiting two or three weeks for an ordered sign to arrive. John will drive straight in to the nearest parking lot and almost everything he sells is in stock -- right in the back of the truck. His territory covers every small hamlet between Peterborough and Oshawa, and all the way north to Orillia, including of course, the Port Perry area. To get in touch with John and his travelling truck, just call 985-3294 for an appointment. He'll be more than happy to pop by. "I'm very proud of the quality of the product and I'm looking forward to showing it off,"' he says.
