Ete LV |e All eyes, with one or two exceptions, were directed skyward last Tuesday evening when the skies above Port Perry lit up with ~ the fire of an incredible light show. The fireworks, sponsored jointly by the Scugog Chamber of Commerce and the Township of Scugog, was judged by many to be the best display yet. Some ap- preciative fir ks fans at the lakefront included Alaina Malcolm, Amanda Bradburn, Matthew Bradburn, Shannon Fox and Bren- nan Malcolm. - Balloons and Canadian flags were the order of the evening on Canada Day when all sorts of entertainment thrilled a capacity crowd at the lakefront. Part of that entertainment came from two clowns, including Dave Vanden Heuvel. Port Perry sure knows how to party! That was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt on July 1st when more than 2,000 men, women, children and animals showed up to celebrate our nation's 119th birthday. Canada Day entertainment and fireworks went off without a hitch at the shore in front of Scugog Memorial Library. People spread blankets, set up lawn chairs or just stood as they enjoyed music per- formed by two local bands, Chrysalis, led by Paul Chilco, and Cadillac, featuring Paul Griffen. The music got underway shortly after 8:30 p.m. and it was long dark before the best fireworks this town has ever seen exploded into th night sky. N The Scugog Chamber of Com- merce spent more money on fireworks this year than ever before and the oohs and aahs of the crowd were indicative of how much the display was appreciated. : Emcee Bill Barr told the audience the whole thing cost the Chamber nearly $5,800. Part of the expense was offset when two clowns cir- culated throughout the crowd accep- ting donations in return for mini Canadian flags. The most touching moment of the evening came when both bands, in true Northern Lights spirit, stood together to lead the crowd in O Canada.
