Sometime over the weekend thieves stole two flower tubs from the front of Eleanor's Flowers on Queen Street, and similar holders from The Gate Restaurant and Gregory's Menswear. Store owners are more than just a little bit angry about the ir.cident. Not only were the flowers and their holders costly, they also required a fair effort to maintain. As one shopkeeper pointed out, they spend time and money trying to keep Port Perry looking good and are rewarded only by theft. Crash claims victim Funeral services will be held this Wednesday (July 9) in Brantford for a Port Perry resident who died in a two-car accident on the Oshawa Road early Friday evening. Randy Thomas Ferguson, 26, died when the car he was driving collid- ed with a second car on the Oshawa Road, south of Port Perry between the 9th and 10th Concessions of Oshawa. Mr. Ferguson was an employee at the A.J. Simpson plant in Port Perry. A police spokesman said Mr. Ferguson was driving a 1978 Plymouth. The driver of the second car was Lester Hodgins, 43 of Oshawa. He and his wife Roberta received minor injuries in the mishap. Also taking place Saturday morning is a large craft show entitl- ed "Festival of Art on the Lake. There, over 35 vendors will display and sell a large variety of different crafts and art. At about 12 noon, Big, Bad and Bouncy, a large monster truck will attempt to drive over-top of five cars parked near the Lakefront. This truck sports tires close to six feet high and four feet wide and this should be a real crowd pleaser. In the afternoon at the Festival Tent is the Giant Merchants Auction Sale where close to 100 items from local businesses will be auctioned. This auction takes place at 1:00 p.m. and following it iin the tent will be sanctioned Armwrestling Competi- tions at about 3:00 p.m. On the front street the Mutt Show gets underway at 2:45 p.m. and there are numerous other activities including Karate demonstrations, dance demonstrations and displays of scuba diving, ultralight airplanes, race cars and Bingo.
