Lp aia ca a a CL bi TE i SA LSB SA oo FER Sitti, St a a a us | 8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, July 22, 1986 Mark heads to Ottawa for PC leadership training Mark Kendall was nominated in the Kidney Foundation's recent Sexy Politician contest for a good reason. He's not an MP, or an MPP or even a local councillor but he's pro- bably the most politically involved teenager in Scugog Township today. The 17 year old Utica resident has been making so many in roads in- to the Progressive Conservative Party that he is now able to drop in- to Larry Grossman's office for a chat, much like other people drop in- to friends' kitchens for coffee. In fact, it was Larry Grossman who nominated Mark to take part in the second annual National Leader- ship Institute, to be held August 15th to 17th on the campus of the Univer- sity of Ottawa. As PC organizers pointed out to young Mark, "this is indeed an honour,' as only 100 delegates from across Canada have been chosen for the leadership training. The course consists mainly of rigorous classes and lectures with well known faculty members, with a final written examination and (hopefully) a diploma. Basically, it will teach how to run an election campaign, how to choose a leader, and how to manage political finances. Mark took a similar course early in June at the Valhalla Inn in Toron- to, designed for provincial leader- ship strategies. Sent by MPP Ross Stevenson, he made enough of an impact on politicians like Larry Grossman, that he was a top choice SPECIAL VISITING ACUPUNCTURE CLINIC LOCATION: Odd Fellows Hall, Ontario Street, Port Perry From JULY 31 to AUGUST 14th -- TREATMENT BY PRIOR APPOINTMENT ONLY -- * Treating all chronic conditions, migraine, all pain and back and stress conditions. * Mr. Henry Jayakody (F.AC.F, HNAC - Japan), Licensed Practitioner (USA), LL.B. All this political ambition came about more than a year ago when Mark began helping the Durham- York PC organization in earnest, canvassing, organizing, phoning and doing whatever was asked of him. Not too much later, he ran for Vice-President of the Durham-York PC Youth and won the position. This year, he was named President of the organization and is now busy cam- paigning to be one of eight vice- presidents of the Ontario PC Youth Association. The election, Mark says, will be held in the first or second week of September at a PC convention in Hamilton. Even though it's more than a month away, he is on the phone constantly soliciting support and funds for the rest of his campaign. In the meantime, however, he is extremely excited about the Leader- ship Institute in Ottawa. Nominated by Grossman, he has also received a personal invitation from Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. He suspects the Prime Minister might even be present at the three- day course but he's not sure. Until then, he'll stay by the phone, or continue to attend various PC events, including Ross Stevenson's barbecue slated for July 23rd in Udora Park. SEE LCS SE for details. Nominations are sought for a Canadian professional truck driver who has performed an act of bravery or heroism. The person or organization that nominates the winner will receive a $200 cash reward. James Sardo, President and C.E.O. of Firestone Canada Inc.
