Mrs. Mildred Thompson and Mrs. Phyllis Clarke were in Quebec recently spending the weekend visiting with relatives of Phyllis. On Wednesday evening, Mildred at- tended a bridal shower for Miss Kim Lee in Woodville. Hillis and Carol Wilbur took a few days off a week ago taking in the sites in Kitchener where they spent 3 days, on to Sarnia visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Ewart Willis for a few days, on to Bright's Grove visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Both and to Hanover where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. George Weif. | A belated welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Holtby and family from Port Perry who have moved into the home formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Doug James. Mr. Jim Claughton has sold his farm due to ill health and will be having an auction sale later this month, and then plans to live in Mississauga with his sister. Jim spent a week or so in Oshawa Hospital recently, but is home now and I'm sure everyone wishes him well. Taking over the farm will be the new owners Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Biffen and family of Port Perry. Bill and I spent Friday helping our daughter Dorothy and family move into their new home at View Lake, and back again on Monday for a visit and swim. Alan Bailey and Lloyd Payne at- tended the steam show at Beaton on Sunday. : Scugog Island news by Mrs. Earl Reader Many of our residents have taken or will be taking their vacation in the west this year to include Expo and many relatives and friends. Among those who have already en- joyed this experience are Bonnie Gerrow and her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fralick and Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Redman. This Saturday, is the day you've been looking forward to -- the Island get-together and celebration with good food and entertainment in garden style party at the Island United Church -- Yes, it's the Chicken BBQ 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. We must hold back those clouds for 3 or 4 hours. By this time children are getting bored with holidays and will certain- ly welcome Bible School at the Island United, starting August 18th. That gives us one full week to get over the Chicken BBQ. Everyone enjoyed a lovely sup- per and games and later went horseback riding. Before dark a Jack and Jill dance was held for Carl Durward and Annette Jackson at Blackstock.
